UTSA moves to 8-0 with a win over Louisiana Tech. The 8th regular season win gives coach Jeff Traylor a $50,000 bonus. Traylor now has $275,000 in bonuses so far. That's equivalent to almost 35% of his scheduled pay from the school this year ($830,000).

That man deserves to get paid.

Wait till they ante up to keep him and he goes P5 anyway.

He will stick around another year at minimum. Has pretty much alluded to that in interviews. Gives us another year to renegotiate.

Same thing I’m hearing. I think he’ll stay and possibly wait for the best offer down line if anything. Don’t think he would jump to likes of a Texas Tech after this year or even next.

Sadly, if you guys complete the sweep and win the conference this year, his stock is at its peak. Like many before him, he'll weigh the big dollars flashing in front of him against taking the chance ya'll don't slide back next year and his stock plummets. At the G5 level, we've all been down that road before.

Touche.....there is always that one exception to the rule. MTSU has learned the hard way that going too far to retain a coach, only to be stuck without an easy way to get rid of them when they under perform, is a big risk.

There are rumbles that Rick may retire after this season. I’ll believe it when I see it.

I hope he's smart enough to realize what happened to Littrell when he turned down a P5 offer. Not that I think he'll fail in the same manner but nothing is ever guaranteed.

As a revered East Texas high school coach Traylor has a limited audience as it will need to be either a Texas or Louisiana P5. That Texas Tech job is not attractive at all. UTSA returns a lot of solid players next year but will be starting a RS-FR QB who was highly recruited by Traylor. My bet is he will stay at least 1 more year at minimum and ride the success.

Any rumors where he might be going? Once USC and LSU get their coaches, the Cincinnati job might be open.

Fans are turning on him. He will get another year or two then Traylor steps In if he isn’t already gone.

Tcu is a good fit for him.

Is it true that you guys are hoping to land Manny Diaz from Miami starting next year? He used to be a coordinator at MTSU years ago, I think, and Miami is very likely to let him go after this season, as well.

RE: UTSA pays Bonuses - westsidewolf1989 - 10-24-2021 05:29 PM

I would expect Traylor to be a strong candidate for the Baylor job if Aranda goes back to LSU. The Texas Tech job seems like a sure thing to open up, but I’m not sure I’d take that if I was Traylor.

Traylor’s also not getting any younger, as he’ll be 54 before next season. If he does want to be a P5 coach, best to take the first good opportunity and run.

Traylor was a home run hire.

He knows Texas football and was a legend in Gilmer Texas where he won 3 state titles in 4A

That man is just a winner ask anybody from East Texas
