After Southern Miss and Marshall move over to the Belt, that would leave hapless CUSA needing to add tems to join, FAU/FIU, MT/WKU NT/UTEP. They could add Jacksonville State, EKU, Lamar, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and NMSU to remain as part of G5.

Southern Miss may join the Sun Belt for geographical reasons only, but there's no indication that Marshall will regardless if Keith Gill visits their campus 100 times.

It's been the dream of Sun Belt fans to see the death of Conference USA after 5 schools left for it when Karl Benson became league commissioner--same guy who tried to kill the Sun Belt before the 2005 season started when he was commissioner of the WAC. North Texas and Middle Tennessee were the only two schools that sponsored Sun Belt football in 2004 that left for CUSA in 2012/2013. North Texas turned down the WAC and Middle Tennessee stuck it out in the Sun Belt rather than going to the MAC during the off-season. Sun Belt probably could've gotten a waiver for 2005 with Arkansas State, ULM, UL-Lafayette adding Troy, Florida International and Florida Atlantic in football. FAU and FIU were already in the league in other sports, but without 8 full members the league would've been in jeopardy.

Why are you still harping on this nonsense. The SBC IMPROVED!!!! When the 5 programs left. They were replaced with likeminded university’s. That is why the SBC is stable and CUSA is disgruntled.

You’re continued bashing of the SBC comes off as a bitter divorcée. Grow up, act mature and be respectful.

Yes, the SBC is doing okay, in football only.

Soon to be all sports once CUSA is destroyed.

Hahaha! Southern Piss is one of the poorest schools in Division 1-A. You'll fit right in with Louisiana-Monroe and their $15 Million annual budget.

Yes.

Based on how quickly the budgets drop after you rule out the MWC, I'm more of the mindset that we should add 1 to get to 9, play a Big 12-style round-robin, and call it a day without diluting too much.

Fine with any 1 of those 4, or maybe North Texas maybe because they shell out more for athletics than any of them.

I can't imagine the AAC bringing in any member that has very little success in men's basketball regardless of how good their football team is. I suspect Memphis especially would likely block any potential addition that would damage the league RPI.

This, to me, is why UAB probably is the most viable addition and why the AAC is not going to just add schools for the sake of adding schools.

UAB, Buffalo, Marshall, Georgia State, or to a degree, James Madison, would seem to have the best balance of football, basketball, and budget that's in line with AAC expectations although the first four would need to raise their budgets by about $20 Million.

Briefly looking over the "Altimore" report, this board seems to be overlooking pretty highly ranked MAC schools.

Miami (OH), NIU and Buffalo.

I don't know how good these guys are. From what I gathered, they predicted UCF, UC, Houston and BYU to the Big 12.

Correct. My prediction is UAB, Buffalo, Rice and Miami (Ohio). By going after Colorado State and Air Force, the AAC tipped its hand at what they wanted; they want schools with quality academics and athletic potential.

Hahaha! You forgot to add ltur to that little group, as they are only about $7 million ‘less poor’ than those you mention. Not to mention that ruston is much smaller and located in just as much, if not even more, poor area than Monroe and Hattiesburg.

True, but before you stroke your fleur-de-lis, let's see how La Tech does this year. I'm certain they won't lose to Rice.

How does a conference with 14 members lose 7 teams with no potential replacements? The AAC isn't adding that many and the Belch won't land anyone beyond hapless Southern Miss.

People keep pushing crappy programs from C-USA. The reason C-USA got the lowest tv media deal is because of the likes of ODU, UAB, North Texas, FAU, FIU and others. I do see UTSA and Marshall as a ligit candidates from that conference right now.

SBC>better than the AAC after the schools leave from AAC. MWC schools are not leaving.

That leaves the MAC schools of Northern Illinois, Ohio U., Toledo and Buffalo as good choices.
James Madison U., North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Dayton and VCU are good adds.

Kind of, IMO that's the main thing to look at, plus, I am a believer in geography, and want the conference to go east.

A "holistic" approach is something you have to earn, be able to afford. Like the B1G, they are so rich and powerful they can afford to have 10 boxes you have to check in addition to great football and hoops, like AAU membership, research budget, US News rank, Diversity initiatives, Green Energy commitments, and the like.

The AAC? We just need to take schools that will make us a better football conference, IMO.

If the AAC only adds one, it should be one that plays baseball, softball and soccer, to simplify maintaining FBS multisport conference status.

Marshall or UAB would fill the bill on that front. App State doesn't play soccer. North Texas doesn't play baseball or soccer.

Just don't add one of the MAC's Georgia soccer pair!

There's some truth there, granted. But that's a big reason I prefer Marshall and App State.
