If the AAC were to replace just two schools, a strong case can be made that they should be:

1. Appalachian State and VCU (or Dayton)

and

2. Buffalo

---Averaging 9.7 FB wins/yr 2018-2020 based on 2020 win pct.

---Finished 2020 FB season ranked in the final AP Top 25.

---Averaging 23.9 BB wins/yr, 2018-2021, based on 2020-21 win pct.

---Finished 2018-19 BB season with a #15 ranking in the final AP poll.

---Buffalo earned four NCAA bids in the past 6 years.

---A R1, AAU, Stage Flagship university

South Dakota State and James Madison have a much better on field performance than UAB.

Thought Army already said no

Aresco will not get a say in this decision if Commissioner Clampett takes his job.

If the AAC we're to raid the MAC, they should take all three of Buffalo, Western Michigan, and Ohio. I would take Rice or UTSA as #12, or failing that, UAB.

AAC West:
Navy/Wichita State, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, Memphis, Rice (or UTSA or UAB)

AAC East:
Buffalo, Temple, Western Michigan, Ohio, East Carolina, USF

Army is the second clause in "a conference doesn't want most schools that want to join it, and most schools it wants don't want to join it."

App. Marshall, UAB, Georgia State.

Anyone that picks an FCS school should maybe just stay off these boards

No FCS school has a chance of being invited to the AAC

North Dakota State have a better record going against P5 schools than UAB. They play like an AAC school with much less.

I can’t see any A-10 team moving to a now inferior conference.

The moniker "Commissioner Clampett" spurs me to a visualize a distinctive gentleman whose background involves the military, public service and fur trapping.

The AAC will be fine as an all-round league (some solid football, hoops, academics, etc.) But it easily could be inferior to the A10 in men's basketball.

There is no way, if I'm the president at VCU, Dayton or SLU, that I have any interest in joining the AAC.

Note that great of a poll in choices. Where's Rice? Where's UAB? Where's ODU? Where's Liberty? A ton of the schools you put are not even remotely in consideration.

UAB is the leading candidate according to source and isn’t in the poll lol.

UAB, Buffalo, App St, and LaTech.

Based on the title thread and the list of choices, I believe the thread author means "other than the candidates already mentioned 1,000 ties (UAB, FAU, Rice etc), who else should the AAC consider".

I find some inclusions laughable - like schools that are not competitive where they are and are being mentioned to shore up the AAC (which considers itself a better conference than any they have left to try to take teams from - MAC, SunBelt, C-USA and Independents).

Some said that including lower division schools is a mistake - and I agree selecting from the next division down doesn't give them what they want - a way to regain some level of "#6" in the eyes of college sports fans. I don't think such a combination exists after BoiseSt, SDSU, ColState and AirForce all turned them down. And I doubt they hold on to Navy at this point.

The short answer is they do require some teams so they "should consider" just about anyone - but for image purposes be a little less public about it. It's starting to look ugly when schools turn you down and then your commissioner says basically "well, we didn't actually invite them to join".

One thing people forget is that a school like North Dakota State can play at the level of Cincinnati, UCF, Memphis, SMU and Houston. You can't find those types of schools in the other G5 conferences.
