Behind a firewall, so you may not be able to see it, but this leads the NYT sports page today.

How much is that publicity worth to Sam Houston State? If Rice doesn't get its act together, they'll be passing Rice in a few years.

The dude isn't that old. The program has been heading to the bottom since the 1970's.

Yes, but when your guiding principle in sports is WWCLSD (“what would Columbia law school do?”) you are going to head down some wrong paths.

Oh, PLEASE. Can we stop with the B.S. already?

Playing schools like SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, Navy, and Memphis INSTEAD of UNT, UTSA, UTEP, etc, is a HUGE deal, not just for athletics but academics and perception of the school itself. The scraping and clawing to get out of CUSA should start at the Presidential level and show some kind of transformative attempt.

Agree with this. Scraping and clawing, yes...and begging at this stage.
What one asset do we have that we haven't tapped into or promoted yet? $$$$

Walt, in what way have we shown we’re committed to FBS athletics over the last 10 years?

As some have demonstrated, Patterson, the tennis center, the soccer facility, etc are 1/3 of what UH has invested over that time frame.

I'm afraid that the powers that be are so turned off by the sandwich board antics from other schools that they took the "moral high ground" by going the other way and refusing to self-promote.

That or we are just seeing a continuation of the decades of insufficient or non-existent action.

I was specifically addressing the uncalled for crack on Leebron.

Yes, no one say anything negative about Leebron, Stanford Joe, Stanford Mike, or Stanford once-removed Luke

Uncalled for? When Leebron got to Rice we were ranked higher academically, we were in a better athletic conference, and tuition cost $20k less than it does now. SO GREAT. At least he raised some money and tweeted his left leaning political stance.

Now when the guy who has been running THE rice football site says that, this shows where the fan base is, all 10's of it.

Brian Smith of the comical has a column today re it was Tillman who pushed uh over the line for the big12. Seemed that they were only going to invite the other three. Wow, would that be effort or commitment? I have seen such words but don't understand them...
