AAC Board - HiddenDragon - 09-03-2021 09:26 AM

I've been posting on their board for the last two weeks going back and forth with realignment chatter. I have not been pimping UAB or been anti-AAC for most of my posting on their board (except I told AttackCoog after his continuous anti UAB comments that I hope we never step foot in the f'ing conference).

Most of the AAC posters are not interested in what UAB or any other CUSA team has to offer and blah blah blah. They're pissed that they're losing three of their best programs with no viable options to replace them with.

So if you're expecting them to have open arms for UAB possibly joining you ain't gonna get it. I would say tread lightly if you post on their board but...........well just sayin'.

RE: AAC Board - BlazinBham - 09-03-2021 09:41 AM

Not a team in that league that we can’t beat, and they know it. When the top 3-4 leave, the rest will continue to be dominated, just by the new additions. Most of them never should have gotten a call and we were forced to turn their league down before many of them were ever invited.

The biggest pushbacks you get are from the teams that know they will be left behind. Which is typical of every realignment. When those schools went to Big East, the Big East schools were not very welcoming. Were we thrilled about FAU, FIU, UTSA... etc? Don't think so. Fortunately, their thoughts only matter very very very slightly.

RE: AAC Board - HiddenDragon - 09-03-2021 09:59 AM

I agree ICB. There is a delusional Tulane and Temple poster that is posting some really ridiculous stuff and Memphis posters are just being Memphis posters.

I'm just saying don't go over there expecting positive UAB chatter.

RE: AAC Board - BlazinBham - 09-03-2021 10:03 AM

Hey, when we get our invite, let’s back in so we can show our ass. Pucker up haters.

AAC Board - Smaug - 09-03-2021 10:07 AM

If you're joining a conference where they're thrilled to see you, you're probably moving down.

If you're joining one where they're not, you're probably moving up.

If/when it happens, they'll get over their butthurt pretty fast to settle in with their new reality.

Those folks opinions matter very little. Their tears will be all the sweeter when we get in and kick their asses. Then they're really gonna hate us.

You are accurate as I have seen in a few of my posts over there.

I have surveyed several boards and what they thought of UAB to AAC.

SunBelt | Overwhelmingly think that UAB is top choice for joining, then they will poach USM, Marshall from C-USA.
CUSA | UAB is probably top one or two but AAC won't be any better than other G5 over their top 3 leave. Sunbelt, C-USA, and AAC need to realign regionally.
AAC | The Sky if falling, lets convince the top MW teams to join us, no good options available, everyone is beneath us, ESPN is going to save us.
Blazertalk | Anything but current conference.

RE: AAC Board - hooverblazer - 09-03-2021 10:09 AM

Some of them think they're going to poach the top Mtn West teams to replace UCF, Houston, and Cinci. That's delusional. Mtn West teams turned them down after UCONN left. No way do they change their mind and accept now with the big 3 leaving.

Memphis| Let's go independent in or drop football and save our basketball by going to the Big East.

Aka the Ray Watts or Memphis Blazer Strategy, except we’d be in the ASUN

Honestly... I think that is what builds/restore rivalries. A good natured dislike of fanbases. Personally I like to go back and forth with them... but you have to have thick skin and not take it personally.

Just from what I read, I'd like nothing more today than to stump a mudhole in ECU and Tulsa... USF fans are trying to add themselves to the list.

There is dislike, and then there is stupidity. And if the other three schools were not leaving and UAB was being invited you would get vile comments from their fanbase as well. I personally don't care what they say but there are those who do take comments to heart.

What I do understand is those schools aren't trying to go backwards and having to replace good schools from a conference that hasn't really been that good it can and does suck. And they're about to get a rude awakening with their current TV deal once all of this is done. A small part of me kinda sympathizes with them......and I mean a very, very small part.

RE: AAC Board - DuelingDragon - 09-03-2021 11:31 AM

When you moved to a new zip code and thought you left the losers from your old neighborhood behind, well, it ain’t much fun to realize they are moving in with you. Holds the mirror up that you ain’t what you thought you were. Their responses are not really about UAB but about themselves. Having to “lower” themselves to the pool of prospective replacements is a tacit admission that nothing really changed for them except a logo.

Psychology 101.

This isn’t unique to the AAC. There are folks in the Big 12 feeling same thing. There are teams likely leaving the AAC who will experience this again in a couple of years.

Truth be told, UAB fans would feel similarly if the Blazers were in the AAC now but not on the Big 12 short list in the same situation as ECU, Tulane, Tulsa, etc. None of that really matters.

Once you take the emotion off it, *somebody* is getting the call, and that somebody will have to check some boxes. As there isn’t a school that checks every box impressively, otherwise they would be in discussion with the Big 12, then I think it becomes clear that UAB is a clear-cut choice.

Kick ass out of conference, look good on TV and maybe play on New Year's Day a time or two and watch how fast they warm up to us.

Just a message board, sure. But message boards and social media are read by some pretty prominent people, and some of those prominent people have direct lines to ADs and Presidents. Perceptions and public sentiment matter. It’s politics. All politics are local. There is a sentiment that UAB has a overcome, politics involved. These dynamics in fact were big reasons this is even a discussion because without them there wouldn’t be UAB Football.

You're right.

Presidents and ADs don't read message boards, but a lot of the guys who write them checks do.

I thought the same thing. I laughed at the Tulane fan’s comment stating that the day Tulane finds itself in a conference with the likes of a team like UAB will be the day he quits watching college football. Of course the self proclaimed national champion UCF fans see themselves as high and mighty and don’t realize that they are a directional school that can only boast a $175M endowment.
