Let’s Count Our Blessings … - AdoptedMonarch - 07-22-2021 05:28 AM

One of my more recently favorite political pundits is Miranda Devine, who writes for the New York Post. Here is a link to her latest, which summarizes ten developing stories of leftist overreach:

https://nypost.com/2021/07/21/heres-whats-gone-right-devine/

Not one of these stories is new to any of the well-informed posters on this forum. But Ms. Devine has a knack for pointing out how these stories reflect trends that are likely to extend beyond the well-informed minority to the population at large.

At least I hope so.

Good stuff, let's hope she's right that much of this is approaching critical mass.

we've always been a pendulum, it will swing back the other way

I agree to a point. What happens when the pendulum breaks, or is broken, and gets stuck to one side or the other?

Then it means whatever "party" was on the other side screwed up. See democrats in 1976 and the GOP in 1996.

My problem is that I don't have faith in this round of republican leaders NOT to screw it up. Look back over the past year. All of the things that they are now complaining of regarding relaxed controls over voter irregularities were in the courts last summer, and they let them slide. Then, when the two Georgia senate runoffs were absolutely critical, they turned flat brain dead and let both of them fall to democrats. Perdue got 250,000 fewer votes in the runoff than he got in the first round, and Loeffler got 60,000 fewer votes than Loeffler and Collins combined got in the first round. They allowed the runoffs to become a referendum on Donald Trump, and it appears to me at least that they lost the votes of a lot of ordinarily republican suburban voters who thought Trump was "mean."

Mitch McConnell couldn't lead a sex addict to a whorehouse, and McCarthy is so innocuous that I still don't know his first name, and I spent a year having to look up his last name every time I wanted to post something about him. Trump resonated with a large group of voters because he at least said what he believed and worked for it. That worked first time against Hillary, and he is probably the only republican who could or would have beaten her. Unfortunately, second time around that angered too many voters for him to beat a vegetable with a commie **** running mate.

There were some really good lines in that.

Midterms are usually quite bad for the incumbent. But this one is shaping up to be a massacre, IF voting fraud can be curbed. When you have high inflation, high gas prices, bungling left and right, losing hispanics, dissing cuban hispanics, and bleeding black voters, it is the perfect storm for an ass kicking.

Which is why you will hear the left scream about the delta variant and shutting things down again. If they cant fraud this election, they are totally screwed.

I think people of both parties are fed up with the lies from the Commies and will not take it any longer. Some will, but that's to be expected but for the most part they are the minority, I know it is in EP.

The most obvious cheating mechanism was the mail in ballot and if the stupid Repubs can stop that or do a major reduction the Commies don't stand a chance...but those stupid Repubs better stop sitting on their hands.

Famous last words for ever democracy that has fallen. We are not immune and what is going on today is not business as usual.

Those stupid republicans are the people who allowed it to happen in the first place. That does not inspire confidence.

I've been a pretty staunch moderate but have always, except for one time, voted straight GOP tickets. Even as the GOP has lost me as a supporter I will probably continue to vote that way simply because while they may have lost me they are still the party who most closely resembles my own ideology, at least ostensibly.

There isn't a single democrat with whom I'm familiar for who I would cast a vote for so much as dog catcher. Libertarians are intellectual snobs who will gladly remind anyone who will listen that they are the smartest people in the room and who can veer so far apart on different issues that they can't be taken seriously.

By no objective measure can any of it be considered BAU. We are witnessing a hostile takeover and are powerless to stop it apparently.

The Delta variant is hitting too soon for them.

THAT would have been the lynchpin reason to expand mail in voting. Not only expand it, but possibly mandate it for all.

Covid is like a typical hurricane season; we'll like be at the Juliet or Kilo variant by the time the midterms come around.

Sir, you are correct. Every Democracy in history has failed or ceased. The United States is long past the average life of a Democracy.

Churchill said it best if you want to fully understand why Democracies collapse just spend 5 minutes with the man on the street. Clueless.
