Learfield Directors Cup Standings of upcoming year 2021-22 Western Athletic Conference

71 Sam Houston
99 Utah Valley
102 Grand Canyon
117 Stephen F Austin
215 Abilene Christian
239 New Mexico State
245 Seattle
255 Cal Baptist

Of the incoming Texas institutions, three are in the top five when comparing results at the NCAA "national championships" amongst the 2021-22 Western Athletic Conference Learfield standings.

A total of 287 programs put "points" on the board.

The only eligible programs (Tarleton, Dixie transitioning) that did not in the new WAC were Chicago State, Lamar and UTRGV. For purposes of the following exercise (comparing the WAC to the SLC - since some of our fans want to say the SLC is a better league), I'll say they are 288. The average standing for eligible schools (not including Tarleton & Dixie State) is 200.6

Of the remaining eight Southland schools, only five scored. Those who did not were Nicholls, New Orleans and Northwestern State, who I'll list at 288 giving the SLC an average standing of 242.

153 TAMU-CC
195 Southeastern La
204 McNeese
233 Incarnate Word
287 Houston Baptist

Just a question, if Tarleton and Dixie don’t score due transitioning, how does Cal Baptist make the list as they are as well?

Great question.

It depends on the sports if they are considered transitional or not. Cal Bap qualified for their first NCAA championship competition in Mens water polo. Some other sports also have individual competitors eligible.

I thought individuals who qualify in certain sports for transitioning schools, are listed as un-attached and do not wear their school uniforms.

Cal Baptist was already competing and fully eligible in a few D1 sports (believe someone referenced water polo) that do not have a D2 classification. Bowling is another sport that lacks multiple classifications and we had a non D1 or two pull off some marquee wins in the postseason.

Just wondering ... How does FCS vs FBS count in the Learfield Cup?

Exact same scoring for the top 10 in FCS and FBS.

They rely on the coaches' poll in FCS and FBS, which is voted on at the conclusion of the seasons with the appropriate champions guaranteed a No. 1 spot to base the top 10 off of.

My opinion is that they should base FCS off the playoff. You know who your No. 1 and No. 2 are. No. 3 and No. 4 should be equally divided by semifinal losers and then No. 5-8 points should be equally divided by the quarterfinal losers. And then points for 9 & 10 places should be divided by the round of 16 losers.
