Monsanto out for season - RodShaw2 - 06-09-2021 03:32 PM

Doesn't affect our program but an FYI.

This is likely not his pinkie he injured late in the season, but more likely something like a knee, but just a guess, and with this background, one wonders:

posterformerlyknownasthedoctor (1-2-21)):

The way he immediately grabbed the medial side of his left knee is concerning, but doesn't necessarily dictate a diagnosis. I could speculate based on experience, but no need to go there. (And I'm *not* trying to sway thinking; hopefully my words here are merely idle wonderings.)

posterformerlyknownasthedoctor (1-31-21):

"Monsanto was injured while being fouled going in for an attempted dunk in traffic early in the second half. He managed to get up and make both free throws and then drained a mid-range jumper on ETSU’s next possession.

“Pain is temporary,” Monsanto said."

What college freshman (altho I guess he's a sophomore academically) talks like that? That's warrior talk; sounds like something Zakee Wadood or Mike Smith would say.

It's a fool's errand trying to predict that stuff these days. Not meaning you (or anyone else who wishes to speculate) are a fool, of course - just that it's way impossible guesstimate those things.
But.........................if i was a bookmaker...............I'd go about 30% yes; 70% no.

Achilles injury

But feel free to "not" speculate.

The "not" speculating was back on Jan 2. This is apparently a different injury. And.......I did say "just a guess". If'd I thought about it 5 more seconds, I would have gone further than "like a knee", as most of those aren't gonna put you out a whole year. But I didn't really spend time 'speculating', even in my mind. Just a guess, like I said.

Tough break for him. Wish him well in his recovery. I hope he does great at Wake down the road. Achilles injuries are tough recoveries.

Wake pulled the Redshirt, he played tonight 6 points. 2-5 from the field (all 3's)

In the first game back from an achilles tear in June, Damari played 12 minutes, got 8 rebounds (all defensive) to lead the team, got 6 points on 2-5 from 3 and 2 blocked shots. The minutes that he played in the second half were important ones that helped Wake establish their lead. Each of his three's (one in the first half, one in the second) moved Wake from a tie or from behind into the lead. No garbage time. Announcers were saying that they expected a couple of minutes from Damari, but they couldn't keep him off the floor.

Another thing of note Brooks Savage got his first win as a head coach as Forbes was out with an illness (not reported if COVID).
My guess is he went with Savage since Shay is newer to the team.
But I have seen some reports that Savage is becoming a name for mid-major jobs. (Could we see him in the SoCon?)

Just call me bitter — but talking Forbes, Shay, and Savage here just P me O.

Yeah, they did such a horrible job with the basketball program, just ruined it. Should have been fired after the first year.

Only things they accomplished was

Winning the SoCon
Winnings the Socon Tournament
Got the automatic NCAA Bid twice
Had the highest win total of any Institution in the state of Tenn.

Those dismal[/align] failures should PO everyone.

Say what? My loyalty is with the institution known as ETSU, not with opportunists who used their successes at ETSU to build resumes, with one foot always in the door, as they haul butt out of here chasing the money. And, I know the modern admiration of that in college sports and the subsequent response to my old school mentality, so don’t bother.

That is the dumbest take I have ever seen, Holy Hell Forbes is making more than 3 times what he was making at ETSU. He would be an idiot to not go. Also, he is in a competitive field (basketball? I hope my coach is competitive) He wants to test himself, push himself. IF Forbes hadn't given it his all while HERE doing everything to make ETSU win I would have a problem. He did, he benefited ETSU did as well.
He has moved on.

My response has nothing to do with modern admiration of college sports, it has everything to do with a shortsighted selfish take. If you wanted good enough and somebody who would never leave they should have kept Bartow.
He should do what is best for me. Buc66 not for himself because I want to see ETSU win and screw him if he robs me of that.. Really??? lmao

I wasn't thinking of old-school mentality reading that but I was questioning mental functionality.. Just Wow.

RE: Monsanto out for season - squeak - 01-21-2022 09:13 PM

I do like seeing our coaches be successful, and if they move on, they move on. Our new coach will grow into his role and hopefully land those players he deems necessary for his style of play. I enjoy the occasional blowout in ETSU's favor, but I sure like those edge of your seat close games too. I just enjoy being entertained.

RE: Monsanto out for season - RodShaw2 - 01-21-2022 09:16 PM

For example, you know what I would like to see in say 5 years from now? ETSU looking for a coach because Tennesee just hired Oliver to replace Barnes who is finally retiring. you know why I would like to see that? Because that means Oliver would have been doing something special at ETSU to get that chance. That means ETSU would
have been winning.
ETSU isn't likely to find a coach who comes here wins and decides to turn down buckets of money to move up.
I want coaches to come here and WIN, win for ETSU, and win for themselves, of course, he is building a resume.

You did it anyway, twice, confirming what I said, even after asking not to bother. So, who is the dumb a$$ after all?

Selfish to place ETSU ABOVE and BEYOND some coach passing through? How’s that selfish? Or, you’re not an ETSU supporter first and foremost, maybe an agent, just on here to pull for these pass through coaches headed for the big MONEY? Go ahead and break out your orange shirt and start lobbying for Oliver to be the next UT coach.

It has nothing to do with Orange colored glasses, if Oliver had come from Kentucky I would have used them as the example.

You can put ETSU first but to get mad that some coach is putting his family first is selfish.

Please tell me you are just a fan and don't actually have a degree from ETSU, I would hate to think someone that stupid could get one from the same schools I did, but maybe you graduated in 66 so you are just old and feeble now?

Hey — you have no idea where I’m coming from, and I sure as heck have no idea where you’re coming from except your obsession with the MONEY, above all else, in the college coaching profession.

Also prestige, coaching in the ACC is several levels above the SoCon. If he wants to test himself, see how good he can be, go against the best in the business he wants that chance. I don't want a coach who settles for less, to be safe, he isn't hungry.

But yeah money is a big part of it. Stupid not to consider it.
