Sloppy

- “Feel the Teal” has been retired and is not to be used on any UNCW materials or in text. I think "Feal the Neal" is still the greatest campaign slogan in UNCW history.

I agree completely. It's a shame(but not surprising) that we didn't have the foresight to copyright that phrase before them

Be mindful of register and trademark elements that accommodate university verbiage. These elements do not apply when the verbiage is used as text in a document or in materials.
UNCW®
University of North Carolina Wilmington™
UNCW Wilmington™ (Everything else is pretty straight forward, but what in the world is UNCW Wilmington?)
University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks™
UNCW Seahawks™

The DUB®
Sammy C. Hawk™

NOTE:
“Feel the Teal” has been retired and is not to be used on any UNCW materials
or in text.
UNCW 70th logo should no longer appear on any UNCW materials.

LOL This goes beyond him. It’s on Jimmy Bass. And I am curious why no one has mentioned him.

It is against the rules here to mention Jimmy Bass in anyway unless it is praising him in no uncertain terms. He is above reproach and has been for his entire reign here as the top man.

Not sure why you think that, there is plenty to go after him for. But, he's done some good too, but if Siddle doesn't work out he's in trouble.(or should be)

You are treading on hallowed ground talking like that and could be getting blasted any minute.

RE: Teal? - 82hawk - 06-13-2021 05:50 AM

Bass will probably retire soon, so this will all be a moot point.

RE: Teal? - Big Alpha Hawk - 06-14-2021 08:02 AM

Bass did a great job cleaning up the Mehrtens mess. He is a solid old school administrator who knew where the low hanging funds were. However I was surprised to find that fund raising was not his forte. Our next AD needs to be first a dynamite fund raiser. Hopefully he will focus on the sports that we can be successful in and fully support those with additional resources. Facilities are also severely lacking and we need someone with a vision to build and upgrade. Share with us a plan and I am sure we could get support if people knew what we were trying to accomplish.

“Old school” is a great description for Bass. If you want what 82Hawk is talking about, then we need a younger and more dynamic AD with a vision who is looking to the future, not just maintaining status quo. That is just not who Bass is. I would move on sooner rather than later.

I started watching these teams (from California...back when watching was FREE) because I liked the navy, teal and yellow together, so unique. But lately it seems they've minimized the yellow and been just navy and teal. Even many of their baseball jerseys are basically navy, grey and white. I miss the yellow baseball jerseys and the three color basketball uniforms.

Not that I can watch the games much anyway because of Flo$port$...

Me too. I still have mine, but it just doesn't fit the same after 20 years. It is my favorite.

I wish they would not have retired those, those still work with any of the unis

RE: Teal? - beav910 - 06-15-2021 03:10 PM

Hey everyone I'm a long time lurker on this board. I actually transferred from UNCW to App State to get a graphic design degree and work in marketing. I still have a passion for and keep up with UNCW athletics but this whole issue is a tough nut to crack obviously. I feel like a lot of the "non-power" schools in the state struggle with brand recognition and cohesiveness. Some of it can be tied to budget and some of it can be tied to the powers that be. Interesting stuff though.

RE: Teal? - solohawks - 06-15-2021 03:30 PM

App and ECU have solid brands due to football

UNCW doesn't need football to get a solid brand but they haven't done a great job at developing an alternative

Teal? - B_Hawk06 - 06-15-2021 03:48 PM

Yeah. I agree that out of the non power schools in NC, ECU and APP have faired the best in branding. Mostly due to their football programs. Also, because they don’t fall under the “UNC_” naming convention. If all the rest of the schools in the “UNC_” umbrella did what Charlotte did, the branding would be much easier for them, IMO.

Good point.

But I like UNCW

UNCC sounds like a community college

The university just has never been able to obtain the level of community buy in like App has in Boone and ECU in Greenville.

Just read two different articles this week that referred to UCLA as University of California at Los Angeles.

I've got mine from my sophomore year. It is almost like new. Being a catcher, I never wore it much while playing in the field. Funny how much "it has shrunk" since '69! I still like kelly green.

I wish all UNCW uniforms could look this good! I love the teal and yellow together.
