Attendance this Fall - ChicagoHuskie - 06-04-2021 07:00 AM

I know this is not a new subject, but with with the pandemic wiping out in-person last year I am hopeful there will be some pent up demand to get out to Huskie Stadium this Fall with alumni, locals & most importantly the students who have been cooped up for a year+.

Winning is always the most important, but I cannot remember a recent time where we have this many potential marque players to generate excitement and attendance- Lombardi, Ritchie, Waylee, Rudolph, Lafeyette, Pugh ect... Allot of explosive players that could really create some buzz.

Dreaming of at least 18K for every game with 20K for some. Seems like a tall order, but be just awesome to see.

It 100% depends on how we show on the field this season. Play well vs GT and you will earn some fans.

Win 2 of the 4 out of conference games and fans *might* show up.

I will say that I think this style of football is going to be a lot of fun this year. The DC likes to bring pressure- the offense is set to spread it around and go for the big play. It’s fun football to watch.

Rod ball won games, but it wasn’t particularly exciting to the eyes. I can only watch Childers run up the middle for 2 yards or miss an open receiver so many times before even I was tired of watching our offense.

There is an article somewhere about that.

That is an interesting point. The incoming freshmen class has not been involved in any school activities for a year and a half. Will they find it fun to get involved in Huskie sports ie. attend football and basketball games? Or will they say they were cooped up for awhile so "where is the keg"? Or will they be students who really don't know how post covid college will shake out "so I might just commute for a year"?

Will be interesting to see. Hopefully the student attendance will be bigger.

When they first eliminated the kegs, and then bottles at tailgating, and then put high-money donors in part of the East-side tailgating, they destroyed the atmosphere. Might take a lot to recover that. Just saying.

If they really want to recover, they just need to give free corn to celebrate Cornfest to a bunch of college students tailgating all day before a 7:30PM game.
Never missed a tailgate for the rest of the season after that.

That's an option too.

Wait, they don't do free corn anymore? I usually tailgate near the convo like a bum.

I thought that 1 game in 1984 was the first and last time that gave free corn to college students that were tailgating for 6 hours but maybe they brought it back again.
I'll never forget the Northern Star's description of that late afternoon. They said there was so much corn flying in the air that it blotted out the sun.
I guess we wanted to know if the Dekalb Co. logo of a piece of corn with wings was really true.

The students had so much fun that night that the tailgates for the rest of the homes games were huge. The problem was that everybody just stayed and tailgated, they didn't go into the stadium.
The attendance was always twice the size outside than it was in the stadium.

Very true, east lot tailgating is a shell of its former self. That lot used to have so many students and was so crowded. Now it's pretty much dead.

Didn't know that was the case. I assumed that area calmed down significantly because of the attendance decrease. They're a lot a bit too hard on drinking nowdays.

That was a mess. My group was on of first in lot. Keg in tow. We avoided a lot of that till a guy 30 feet away through some our way and a cob hit me in chest. My friends had to pull me off the guy. Pissed me off.

I think it went from Corn Cob tossing to Porta-Potty tipping at the next home game. I know you were pissed at that corn cob throw but the dudes that freed themselves from a tipped over Porta-Potty were coming out swinging and rightfully so.
There were so many dead grass spots in the East lot because no one wanted to use a Porta-Potty after that.

I seem to remember throwing marshmallows in the student section, which...seems harmless until you get hit in the face with one.
