Scott Berry made 197k at USM in 2017 (assuming he makes quite a bit more now-I just can't find open records).

John McCormack at FAU made 187k at FAU in 2020.

If we can't pay 200k for a baseball coach (assuming that Hallmark would come for that) than we are in far deeper **** than I thought.

With the loss of our biggest revenue day (football game at LSU), I would not think that Rice is in a position to pay $200,000. Now, if a Dunlevie could be found to endow the head coach's salary, perhaps Rice could afford to pay market rate. Short of that, I think that we will be in for another Bragga (unless someone like Cruz, Jr. will give the school an alumnus discount).

Just re-direct some of Leebron's salary. Easy-peasy.

Rice has the ability to manage something like the loss of the LSU game over the life of a contract.

I know some of you have confidences that you do not want to reveal or betray ... but then why post here at all? And do the people you worry about betraying read The Parliament so that they would catch you?

I mean, there is a reason you can use pseudonyms to make online posts. Create another account and use that one for the juicy details!

I do remember Kendall Rogers had tweeted that Saarloos turned us down before we hired Bragga

Apparently Baseball America is reporting that Rice is "close" to hiring Jose Cruz, Jr...I don't think this has been confirmed at this point.

C for Cruz. By the way, big kudos to the (non JK) members of the committee for steering this thing in the right direction after JK did his usual thing. You know who you are.

Who was the Stanford assistant he wanted this time!?

Will he bring his father as Director of Operations?....Does his father know anything about baseball? This is a home run....

I'm hoping Cruz keeps Janish as an assistant.

I'm sure he is very aware of the masterful job Janish did coaching the fielding techniques of his son at shortstop.

My guess is that Hallmark either turned them down or was not offered because he wanted a lot more autonomy than Joe was willing to give up.

At this point, I don't think a lateral move from UTSA to Rice would be a good career move for Patrick.

You keep saying this, and I strong disagree. Very few people knowledgeable of the collegiate baseball landscape would claim UTSA to Rice is a lateral move. And I'm sure Hallmark wouldn't think that. I very much doubt Patrick would have turned it down....and ANY coach this time round, Cheito included, would demand autonomy. I'd also be shocked if Cheito did not consult with Wayne before accepting the job.

I like to think I'm knowledgeable of the collegiate baseball landscape and I can tell you that there definitely are people who think UTSA to Rice is a lateral move.

Facility-wise and history-wise.....yes, you're correct. But UTSA is a facility upgrade away from being VERY competitive in the baseball arena. San Antonio is a big baseball town and UTSA can, and should, become a real player for recruits....IF they improve their facilities.

IF and WHEN. It's not a lateral move today. Rice also pays more, at least today.

Agreed - kinda hard to argue that something is a lateral move when it's prefaced on significant investments occurring.

I would imagine USM would be a lateral move in CUSA at the moment.

Program on the rise that made CUSA tournament to program in decline that failed to make CUSA tournament is not a major step up.

You can call it a small step up based on history, or a lateral step, or even a step down based on potential. If I were Patrick Hallmark, Rice under the current administration is not where I would choose to try to make my coaching splash.

UTSA isn’t really a program on the rise-They had a very similar record this year to their last year with their former coach.

Did you mean to type 'now' or 'not'? That one letter difference is substantial.

Compare where UTSA was 10, 20, or 30 years ago, in baseball or in all sports, to where Rice was at those points, and I think you'd clearly see one program as rising and one as declining.
