I think private money coming to universities with respect to housing is a fabulous idea. Colleges don't need to be so horizontally or vertically integrated in all aspects of their mission. They simply need to hire and PAY dedicated and engaged professors like Tom Mast and concentrate on devising curriculum that serves the needs of students and the economy that currently exists. EDUCATION FIRST.

they're in a ton of financial trouble. there has been reports of them hemorrhaging money for months.

Yes, it must. Rynearson, when the West stands were constructed, was designed to be the first of four such structures that ended up with a "bowl" of 60K fans. Then came the Supreme Court decision that freed up the previously restricted TV market of NCAA games. Northwestern realizes this as well and does have the money to right size their stadium.

as someone who spends a fair deal of time in Hamtramck - i can tell you right now how great immigration can be. best polish restaurant and best yemeni restaurant around the corner from each other - what's better than that?

I want to stay away from a public policy debate, but I'd suggest our lawmakers remember two considerations:
1). We are part of the western hemisphere. We have a duty to consider our neighbors to the north and south.
2). Our neighbors to the south speak Spanish which is widely spoken in the U.S. They can assimilate easier with a common culture and language.
