WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft - BearcatMan - 05-03-2021 10:01 AM

Well...it would appear that people are finally picking up what we've been laying down:

PFF Mock Draft for 2022:
Desmond Ridder: Round 1, Pick 10
Ahmad Gardner: Round 1, Pick 26

BleacherReport Mock Draft for 2022:
Desmond Ridder: Round 1, Pick 9
Ahmad Gardner: Round 1, Pick 17

FoxSports Mock Draft for 2022:
Desmond Ridder: Round 1, Pick 2
Ahmad Gardner: Round 1, Pick 20

SportingNews Mock Draft for 2022:
Desmond Ridder: Round 1, Pick 10

ProFootball Network 2 Round Mock 2022:
Desmond Ridder: Round 1, Pick 8
Myjai Sanders: Round 2, Pick 6
Ahmad Gardner: Round 2, Pick 12
Josh Whyle: Round 2, Pick 14

My guess is we have anywhere between 6-9 players drafted depending on season and testing:
Locks-
Ridder
Sanders
Gardner
Whyle

Likely, but needs a good season-
Beavers
Bryant

Wishful Thinking-
Young
Pierce
Lenny Taylor

Honestly we really do look like a playoff contender this year, complete we guys projected to get drafted on day 1 and 2.

I'd add Jerome Ford to your list, assuming he comes out with a good year. And, is Dylan O'Quinn a senior? Gotta think he'll get a look.

I debated him...but with how much we share the wealth running the ball, I doubt any of our guys would be able to have the season that would warrant an early entry with limited snaps.

RE: WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft - BearcatMan - 05-03-2021 10:43 AM

Honestly, if we can start putting guys into the draft at a decent clip (3-6 guys per year), there is nothing stopping us from continuing this upward trajectory indefinitely. Thats really the only thing we haven't proven to recruits, is that we can give them a genuine shot at the league. This being the first of Fickell's full classes coming through, and also carrying to potential of a ton of draftees, definitely bodes well for continued recruitment efforts.

RE: WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft - robertfoshizzle - 05-03-2021 10:59 AM

If we end up with 4 guys drafted in the first 2 rounds, including Ridder as a top 10 pick, we will be one of the biggest stories of the draft. High school football players follow the draft closely. Those players will look at our results and conclude that Cincinnati is a place to go if you want to play on Sundays. Also, just imagine the playoff expansion/conference realignment push in the media if we have that kind of draft after winning the NY6 bowl. Holy ****, I cannot wait for football season.

RE: WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft - robertfoshizzle - 05-03-2021 11:01 AM

Assuming we can hang on to Luke for a few more years and Wes lives up to the potential he seems to have, there's no doubt in my mind we'll be choice #1 for the ACC and Big 12 when TV contract talks come up in a few years. We don't have much control on if they expand, but we can definitely control being the school of choice if it does happen.

RS Junior this fall. He will likely be switching from guard to tackle so I just don't see him going in the draft.

I think Beavers is going to wreck havoc this fall. He is up to 260 and still has his quickness and speed. After starting out as a DE, he seems to get more comfortable last year at linebacker and got better each game.

Another name to consider for the draft will be Arquon Bush.

He will pick up Doaks workload and still get the bulk of the carries. If Doaks can sneak in and get drafted I think Ford can too. If He thinks he needs more touches to get a shot at the NFL he will still have eligibility left.

Agree and agree. Bush really played and showed well in the Georgia game. He can continue to make impact and have eyes on him/his film for another season.

I know this is down the road a few years but does anyone doubt Renfro has the potential to be a Round 1 or Round 2 pick?

RE: WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft - Bruce Monnin - 05-03-2021 12:04 PM

IF Ford can avoid fumbles, I like him to get a LOT of yards this year.

i'm shocked/intrigued about Ridder's projections. He took a huge step up towards the end of last season. To be first round caliber, his passing would still have to go up a level from last season, imo. i am also very interested in how he handles the burden of expectation. This will be the first season where we start in the top 25 (maybe even top 15). While we've shown well over the past couple of seasons, the pollsters have shown that they are more than willing to drop us with lackluster performances, or Ws against "lesser" competition (in their eyes for whatever their rationale). Ridder being a perfectionist is well documented. There will be a pressure on him unlike any other. i hope he's got the shoulders for this.

Been a Ridder critic his whole career so why stop now. I'm going to guess that he hasn't been thoroughly scouted since he wasn't expected to come out. I think his arm strength is average. I think he lacks good timing and accuracy on mid/deep routes. These things are going to be hard to make significant improvements on after 30+ college starts. His assets are size, athleticism, and intangibles. Can he be a poor man Lamar Jackson? Lamar has more quickness like a WR while Des is a long strider. But I think that's the style he'd need to be to play at the NFL level.

I tend to agree - I hope Des makes the decision easy (in the positive sense) for some team early in the first, but I really don't see it quite yet. At the moment, he's a mid-round project to me. I really hope he proves me wrong in 2021.

I also think early entry candidates need to really look at actual draft results vs. listening to agents and family before they make a decision. "Freak" James Wiggins almost went undrafted, and outside of Sanders and Gardner, there's nobody on the team better than him at his best, pre-injury. Forrest put up crazy workout numbers to go with great game film, and didn't get taken until the 5th. Warren went undrafted. And that's just UC players - there are plenty of big-time talents across the NCAA that don't make the Top 224. And very different from basketball, the opportunity to make any real money dries up outside of the NFL.

Wiggins wasn't an early entry, but your point remains true.

What cracks me up about publications making these projections is, go back and look at what most were saying at the end of last year. The highest I saw him projected was 2nd round. Fast forward 5 months. He hasn't played another down since those projections and now he's potentially at Top 10 pick? 03-lmfao

Part of it is that everyone is really high on UC this year. I think they expect a huge season from Des as a result.

One of the stats that strangely correlates best for QBs winning in the NFL is actually starts in college (none correlate great mind you...getting the franchise QB is more of a crapshoot than you;d think). Des is going to have a hell of a track record in college when all is said and done.

I don’t think anyone thought Tom Brady would be Tom Brady when he came out of Michigan.
