To say I'm excited about next season would be the understatement of the century. LFG!!

I've watched and rewatched just about every UC game or highlight that I can get ahold of, provided the games are victories. I'm starving for live game action.

Damn Gino put up some yards.

He did have 1,556 career pass attempts, though.

Des has actually averaged (slightly) more yards per attempt.

I was at Nippert for the college careers of both Des and Gino. Without looking at the stats, Des is no where near the quality QB Gino was. I'd take Zach Collaros over both of them. For his three years starting, 2009-2011, he had 6276 passing yards with 803 rushing for a total of 7079 total yards. Zach also had Isaiah Pead who rushed for over 3,000 yards those three years. Collaros & Pead, a joy to watch.

Same, I was watching the UC-Memphis game last night after I finished watching Goldfinger.

So if Dez uses his covid year he can pass Gino.

RE: Leading by example... - Hemond - 04-25-2021 10:44 AM

Ridder is going to have a good season.

Sorry to single you out, but this reply is so emblematic of our fanbase. The post was celebrating Des' leadership, which has been undeniable. He's been such a pleasure to see grow during his time here. Sure, Gino and Collaros were great quarterbacks, but so is Des. I hope you're able to enjoy what should be an amazing year for our program as - without looking at the stats - a great young man coached by the all-time yardage leader in program history ends his career as the winningest QB in a Bearcat uniform.

And he was making us pull our hair out for the first half of the season. Offensive line gets shuffled and suddenly Dez is an All Star. Who knew? Bengals should take notes...

Now way Collaros was better than Guidugi.

I never saw Greg Cook play, but Gino was the best QB I've seen us have here. I always kind've felt sorry for him because to be blunt and honest, at the time he could have done a lot better than us.

Collaros played on better teams, much like Dez right now. Hey, I don't need Dez to be John Elway, just win the games.

I did see Greg Cook play and there was a very good reason that he was chosen in the 1st round with the #5 draft pick.

Hell yeah, 1992! Totally agree. And I love to see a thread dedicated to Dez Ridder, who is certainly leading by example for the current version of the Cincinnati Bearcats football team. Thank you, my friend, for posting this thread that honors the contributions of this young man!

It's an interesting debate. I'd say that Geno's yardage record is probably more impressive in the context of its time. Big passing yardage is a little more common nowadays than it was then.

However, I know this is an awful comparison, but I feel like Ridder is a little like LeBron James in that even when he's a little off his game in terms of passing (shooting) accuracy, he can still impact the game with his legs, decision-making, and leadership qualities. He's certainly not the most elite QB skill-wise I've seen, but he is one of the most elite in terms of intangibles IMO.

They slung the ball around more than one would think. Gino had very good receivers- LaDaris Vann, John Olinger, Tye Keith, the Hannibal Thomas.. arguably better than what Des has had his three years. The offensive coordinator was Rusty Burns, who went on to join the staff at TCU under Gary Patterson (he is still there).
