You don’t think we could play just about any team if we offered to go to their place with no return game?

You don't think Norvell helped get this together? If Fuente wanted to do it, a game at Va. Tech would've been done by now. It hasn't simply because Fuente doesn't want to.

Norvell at least has made the effort to give Memphis a game. I don't care that it is a buy game Norvell could've taken the easy way out and said no, but he didn't.

Plenty of easier wins out there for Norvell to schedule...This was done as a favor.
Essentially what I'm trying to say. It's a good gesture from Norvell to schedule this game when he in all honesty didn't have to.

And he knows as well as anyone what we’re capable of.

Another thing that will make home and homes tougher to get is of late we beat the P5 at home

2015 beat Mississippi
2016 beat Kansas
2017 beat UCLA
2019 beat Mississippi

Did lose to Iowa State but that wasn’t a pure home game

If it wasn't a bowl game we would have beaten them. Henderson would have played.

Don’t be an ass. It’s a great gesture by a good dude.

Why is it a great gesture?

Is it difficult for us to schedule teams for us to be a buy game?

Hard to tell if you are trolling here but its good. It's exceptionally hard for Memphis to schedule any significant teams right now from the Power 5. No one wants to do it, lots of turn downs for game. Not sure how UCF is doing it but for some reason it's exceptionally difficult for us to get these games as we had in the past.

This was a great move by our former coach, we get a $ 1,200,000 payout - more than any bowl game we could attend with manageable expenses not bowl expenses to go against. We will actually see "net income" from this gesture.

And, let's not forget in addition to the cash, we will beat that ass.

As a matter of fact, it is, with an all-time top 25 program like FSU.

Folks think scheduling (basketball and football) is simple. It is not.

He’s just showing the respect to Memphis that Memphis gave him. Thanks Mike.

It is a solid move by Norvell for the school.
He's also helping his guy Silverfield out. Had Memphis passed on RS for someone else, this game might not be happening.

MN really views Memphis as his "home" away from where he is coaching btw. He has lots of really good ties here and to him this is his home base somewhat.

Once upon a time, I heard the same sentiment regarding Calipari. Not that I view MN in the same dim light as Cal, but I'm just sayin'.

RE: Football playing @ Florida State 2024 - Mimi - 04-23-2021 10:20 PM

It is nearly a no win situation for Norvell so it is a good gesture

Gives Memphis an elite historic opponent

And if Norvell is there in 2024 that means he will have them much better. That will be his fifth season and whereas if we played them NEXT year he actually has something to gain, it is a risk in 2024. Man I hope we are still a good football team then

We could use a big road win. Kids have won at Houston several times, at Cincy, at SMU, at Navy

But even solid Memphis teams of late have not won at UCLA, Mississippi, Central or Missouri

We will play at Moo before Tallahassee so will have another non conference chance, and we will have shots at Central as well
