According to broadcaster Dick Enberg, they were Pete Carril, Al McGuire and John Wooden.

Great names in this post of college basketball coaches. I was fortunate enough to see Coach Chaney coach Temple several times live against the Richmond Spiders when my son played for UR in the A10 against the Owls!

Man! You got to see some history. He could be pretty entertaining at times. And then at other times he would just sit there like he was mad at the world. Carril looked like a distracted Professor of Mathematics. And of course the Wizard looked like he was about to attend a meeting of the board of directors.

Enberg did not have time to elaborate on why those were Chaney's favorites. That would be very interesting to know.
