Does who Brannen reported to matter? - doss2 - 04-10-2021 09:56 AM

This is who Richie made Brannen report to:

Nick Bowes started with the University of Cincinnati in June of 2009 as an accountant within the department and currently serves as the Associate AD for Business and External Affairs.

Bowes serves as the oversight for the athletics ticket office and the UCATS business operations. His responsibilities include the management of approximately $12 million annually in tickets, parking and gift revenue. He also managed accounting for the $86 million Nippert Stadium renovation and expansion project and will do the same for the Fifth Third Arena renovations. He is in charge of forecasting all ticket and development related revenue and develops the pricing structure for all season ticket and single-game sales.

Prior to his arrival at UC, Bowes worked as accounting intern at Ashland Inc. in Dublin, Ohio from 2006 to 2008. He performed daily audits and ensured timely and accurate payment of all invoices.

There is nothing herein that says he ever played a sport or coached. A bean counter. Does it matter who you report to? Hell YES! Remember I was a CFO.

Reporting structures change all of the time.
New Boss...boo hoo...Get over it and do your job.
Who Brannen reported to is no excuse for how he did his job.
It is also a really weak legal argument of his against UC if that is all he has.

1. I think you're accepting the Mars spin hook, line and sinker if you think it was that simple as far as who Brannen reported to.

2. More importantly, matter for what? It certainly doesn't create an excuse for Brannen to run kids into the ground to the point where medical personnel had to stop the practice. (assuming those reports are true). It doesn't offer a defense to other possible for cause justification that may or may not be out there. Maybe Brannen could have argued it was a breach (assuming it's true and not some contrived nonsense from Mars) and tried to step away without paying his buyout if he was so worried about it, but it has nothing to do with the current situation.

I don't know why whether or not he played or coached matters here. He's in charge of business & Financials. Unless part of his job is to play or coach that should be irrelevant?

Also it seems I miss all the meetings where everyone here decides on nicknames for people. What did I miss about John Cunningham becoming "Richie"?

Not sure how old you are... Richie Cunningham was a character on the old TV show “Happy Days”.

He looks like the Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. Google it.

Did Nick Bowes cause Brannen to not be able to come within 40 points of Houston?

UC [privately]: Mistreated/mismanaged players. Violated university/NCAA COVID protocols.

JB/Mars [publicly]: Reported to the #2 AD person. Luke Fickell texted his support upon hearing of the suspension.

Fickell texted something to Brannen, he did not tweet anything.

Doing cartwheels and yoga to spin this is how plaintiffs’ attorneys afford the lake house in the Hamptons or somewhere similar.

Brannen screwed this up all on his own. He’ll settle on an amount at some point and thankfully go away.

maybe if jb was reporting to cunny these players wouldn't have been mistreated. allegedly

It looks like Brannen/Mars released their most damning info this weekend:

1. Luke texted him
2. There was a change in reporting structure
3. UC's administration wanted a "high profile" coach (implying Brannen is low profile)

It's hilarious that this was the best they could come up with. Mars made him look like an @ss.

looks like the USA should pay heed to Israel with dealing with the young people after graduating High school. ALL people ages 18-20 automatically be placed in their armed forces and after 2 years, they can leave and attend college, get a job, etc. We wouldn't have had any of those that left complain about being yelled at and having to do things on their own sometimes to get better. Hence, we see why UC collapsed after Scott and Cumberlands left. Most young people today are told what to do by their moms. Looks like the case with Tari Eason.

In every professional job I've ever had, I was unofficially reporting to several people on a day-to-day basis than the boss who I was "officially" reporting to.

Organizations are a lot flatter than they used to be. In one job, I had 6 or 7 bosses and sometimes I would go a full week without seeing the person whom I was a direct report to.

The only thing I have seen that gives me the biggest pause is the part where they did not even tell him he was doing anything wrong and they gave him HIGH praise in his review. Any good lawyer will make UC pay big time for that right there.

Could that even escalate the damages?

A good review doesn't save any one from being let go. Not in an at will state.

Everyone has higher ups that the interact with. Your "BOSS" gives and signs your review, your boss has final say over your salary. If you wanted to take vacation you "BOSS" approves it.

If you have a contract it over rides "at will".
