2,3,12 were not P6. 11 and 14 were BE.

I was hoping Memphis might "slip" in at No. 25 but knew the Tigers' chances were about 10 percent at best.
The only time I recall an NIT winner finishing in one of the final polls was when Minnesota, at 20-10, finished No. 25 in the final coaches poll in 1993.

Wow, I am surprised that so few NIT winners have made the final top 25. I was surprised that Memphis did not this year (IMO they should have), and am shocked that it hasn't happened since 1993.
IMO, winning the NIT is about equivalent to making the Sweet 16 of the big dance. It's a pretty significant achievement, so I would only expect the Sweet 16 teams and a few others ranked ahead of them.
But obviously, the pollsters have not historically agreed.

1978 was a long wait for UK fans, 20 years. In 1975 there was a story about a player from the 1966 team (lost to UTEP in title game) who had saved a piece of celebratory cake from 1966 in his freezer. He promised to eat it all if UK beat UCLA in that final (as they were favored to do until John Wooden motivated his team by announcing his retirement). Hope he saved it 3 more years.

I actually enjoy following the NIT annually and always check this time each year to see if the winner finishes in the final Top 25 coaches poll. I thought Memphis had a shot this time around and appreciate the kind words toward the Tigers. They were a solid team, having lost closely twice to Houston at year's end and then looking strong against quality competition in the NIT.
I agree with you that in general winning the NIT is roughly the equivalent of making the Sweet 16 in the big dance. It's a fairly big deal. I'm not sure many would agree with us, however.
