Not just our men - mjs - 03-31-2021 08:43 AM

According to this morning's paper Teal Battle and Trinitee Alexander have entered the Transfer Portal. At least, 3 girls left the team during the course of the season.

Battle's transfer answer's a question I had. This year's seniors can use their "extra" Covid year to play at another school. So, theoretically, Ben and Ruot could play at another DI school next year if they chose to do so.

I was really hoping Teal Battle would want to play an "extra" year of college basketball. Just didn't consider that she might do it at another school.

It is theoretically possible that this is not a "slap" at our basketball program. Teal could be using the graduate transfer rule in the way it was supposedly intended- to allow a graduate to transfer to a school to attain a graduate degree not offered at their current school. However, she might be the first to do so, since I have never heard this even mentioned after the rule was put in place.
What a farce. Just another way for high majors to steal players that have developed into "studs" at midmajor programs.

Teal indicated on social media that she’s transferring somewhere else because she wants to get her masters somewhere else. So no bad blood, just a personal decision. I wish her well!

If that is why she is transferring I also wish her well. That was supposed to be the reason for the graduate transfer rule- to allow student athletes to further their education in a field of their choosing. I have never heard a male graduate transfer mention their educational goals. Teal impressed as a bright young lady, when she spoke at a coach's luncheon, so I am not surprised. After saying all that, I do wish she could have completed her career here.
