They have 9-10 true freshmen and only two or three of them really see the field regularly. The State game featured some shaky defense and it has continued since then. Yesterday vs COC UNCW gave up 15 hits,6 walks,2 errors-one to allow the winning run. They also missed st least two chances to turn double plays but instead played those chances into base hits and runs scored.
The DH spot has also been an automatic out other than the walkoff HR by Marsh.
Walks and errors lose games-period. This is a talented team and really should have swept both of the last two weekends.

True, mullet. Mangero had been rock solid at SS previously but had a key error yesterday that led to 2 unearned runs for Gorham.
We've had great nights on defense, the ECU game in particular, so I would hope this is the problem that can be fixed the quickest.

A healthy number of pitchers are freshmen. And, due to the shortened covid season last year, I count all 23 as freshmen. A lot of errors were made in the covid season. We started out looking like that has been resolved. But errors have reared their ugly head. I attribute that partly to the youth. Thru 5 decades I have seen our younger players start their college career with many errors. It took most a season to settle down. Some didn't until their junior year. I've seen JuCo players come in and make one error after another the first year and turn around the second year and play lights out D.
Jones is a recent example. He stayed an extra year to improve on his game. And it paid off. In baseball it just takes time for some players to settle into a higher level of the game.

The DH spot has not hurt as bad as it looks. We have had four 3 hit games out of that spot. Actually our worst hitter at DH could very well be Suggs. Most of his better at bats have come while catching.

Suggs is not a DH to me ,that spot is Evans and Marsh and Marsh has been inconsistent and Evans has not produced at all. Suggs is one of the best hitters on the team without question . Mongero has made some costly errors and some great plays,what you need there is the routine out has to happen. Walks and errors-the way to lose. Get back to solid baseball,get ahead in the count and stop walking the bottom of the order.

I agree. Freshmen and some sophomores have a tendency errors affecting their play. They started the year playing great D overall. Now they've let errors get in their heads instead of just moving on. This is when the cream rises to the top. This is where they either mature as D1 players or someone will eventually take their spot. I do believe Randy is being patient with them, and it will pay off for both the players and the team. Especially since they have already shown how solid they can be.
