I think JD and MAW are staying no matter what. Probably Lakhin as well. DDJ probably gone.
As for who comes back. I think Saunders, Mason and Diarra are all possible. Maybe even Gabe or Harvey. Eason probably gone regardless.

If you think Mason is coming back after the **** some of our fans have been saying to him, you're crazy.
I think we'd be lucky to loop back in one or two guys and keep 3 of the remaining 4, but, depending on the hire, we could have quite a few solid players jump in very quickly.

Brannen would do well to take a check to resign and head off to join Chris Mack at UL. He is not going to do himself any favors if all of this starts hitting the Enquirer....and nearly every bit of it will if this drags out.

I mean, I get it, but it's a timeline thing. We all know this investigation has been going on for the last week, but you can't announce an investigation then fire the guy the next day...that's why I'm saying Monday or Tuesday probably.
That's my read as well. With five days until the buyout drops substantially (at the stroke of midnight) this may be a very brief "investigation" and I'll suggest that it's mostly completed at this point anyway. Firewalls will be erected by the attorneys to protect both parties' interests so we'll likely never know what really went on this past season.
If it does conclude prior to the National Championship game there will still be plenty of coaches and recruits "in play" this year. From what I've seen with previous athletic directors, it's a safe bet those informal conversations are already underway with prospective coaches or their agents. I know people are building lists already and speculation will only increase. I won't be surprised if UC pulls a rabbit out of its hat this time and we're all taken aback by the selection.

Yeah, look at the **** EJ Lidell had to deal with after the OSU loss. I doubt a few blowhards on Twitter and a message board would have that much of an effect.

I mean, bear with me on this, but when you are treated unfairly, you try to do something about it, then people start jumping down your throat...are you going to want to go back to playing for those people.
Mason retweeted a few of the comments he had directed at him and, yeah, I wouldn't want to play in front of those people ever again were I in his shoes.

Frankly, I'll be surprised if any in the portal return; I think the page has been turned. And there is no assurance that the remaining players will mesh with the personality and style of play a new coach brings. I'd be prepared for the possibility of an entirely new squad next fall if this is as messy as it now appears to be. And that's not saying I don't want our loyal players back because I very much do. But this just has the potential at this point for lots of collateral damage.

Agreed...my hope is that JD sticks around (I genuinely think he has the potential to be the best player in Red and Black since the early 00s), and part of me thinks MAW would too (no specific reason, just the vibe he seems to give off is more of a roll with the punches type of personality). Bu yeah, we should all be prepared for a complete rebuild ce. 2006 here now. Only way that doesn't happen is if the coach we bring in has some players who are readily available who may want to join him at a place that also recruited them and where they'd have ample minutes.

I can't stand fans who run their mouths on Twitter and make the program look bad. Anyone who cares about our basketball program shouldn't be damaging it on social media, but there are a lot of really dumb people in the world.

I mean we were sorta already there even if Brannen stayed. Year 3 isn’t the perfect time to start a total rebuild. I could see DDJ leaving either way. A new coach will likely start with the same hand Brannen is working with. Possibly better opportunities without the black cloud swirling around whether the coach is mistreating players.

Former players I don't mind as much as a supposed beat writer just talking nonsense about Mason on his way out. At least Keith seems to actually like UC, which can't be said about every writer the enquirer has thrown our way.
