There are multiple buildings and the honors school named after him - Edward L. Hutton. He passed away in 2009 and, yes, he is the biggest benefactor in IU’s history.

His companies really took a turn for the worse after he passed. Omnicare's been sued by the feds for over 100 million.

Mr. Hutton founded 2 Fortune 500 companies. After he passed away, CHE stock went from approximately $16 per share (pre-split) to $481 per share (pre-pandemic). CHE divested itself of OCR before he passed. A few years ago, it was sold to CVS for $12.5 billion. Kevin McNamara and the senior management team at CHE has performed wonderfully based on the foundation set up by Mr. Hutton.

Wow! I know Kevin well from my previous life (I helped take one of his previous companies public). Are you still in touch with him?

I am retired now from work-a-day life as well as all boards I served on. It’s probably been about a year since I spoke with Kevin.

Brannen is a nice guy but not a good basketball coach.

Hasn't he coached a team to like 6 straight conference championship games? That doesn't really happen by chance.

Not even close.

First year at NKU the team sucked, out in first game. Got lucky in year 2 and beat the 5, 9, and 10 seed to win it. Year 3 they were the league champs in regular season but choked in the first round against 8 seed Cleveland State. Year 4 they actually won the tournament after great regular season in the league.

Also 0-3 in the post season at NKU too. Somehow that was good enough for the UC job.

Whenever one gets a new boss there often is tension. Last year was the problem Brannen or Cumberland? Likely multiple valid realities. Different POV's.

This year mostly new players but still tension. Whose fault?

Problem may be Brannen. That said if he broke no major rules UC needs to man up and pay him to go away. I never understood how much they were paying him over NKU. UC made a bad deal. Man up pay off, move on. And also get rid of Cunningham.

Not to be that guy, but you're off by a factor of 10 here somewhere. UC's endowment is only $1.4bn. It would take an endowment of $13 billion to generate enough return to pay off a $5 million buyout in 2 weeks at 1%.

As far as I'm concerned, we could use more guys like you. Keep being that guy.

Agreed.

Wichita wasn’t all that good. Players played hard for each other and maybe even themselves. I am sure some played to have film, others probably just liked to compete. Honestly one of the strange things this year was the players actually played hard most of the time.

This is a pretty negative spin on his nku time. He took over a program a few years in to d1 hoops. His first team struggled but he quickly built them into the class of the Horizon. "Getting lucky" in year 2 was finishing 3rd in the league in their first year of tournament eligibility, jumping them 120ish spots in kenpom and winning the conference tournament.
The next year they win the league and were a top 100 kenpom team but got upset in the conference tournament. Then his final year he won both the regular season and conference tournament and were top 100 kenpom. He raised the program 150-200 spots from where they were kenpom when he arrived. Winning 2 regular season and two tournament championships. Whatever your feelings on Brannen what he did at nku was incredibly impressive in a short time there.

This question how he did in the conference tournament. He didn’t go six finals in a row. Is first championship at NKU the bracket fell apart. Those are true facts.

I love arguments based on the sports transitive property...it takes more flexibility than the Saturday main stage act at the Spearmint Rhino.

Wichita beat Houston so that's their level.

But they lost to Cincinnati. So that's their level too.

There was a blog years ago, hell, probably over a decade now, that would work to find the path from the worst team to the National Champion every year using the transitive property just to show the sheer lunacy of it.

Didn't even take too long on ESPN to find that path this year, and it's conveniently only six degrees of separation:

1-21 Idaho beat 13-10 Montana State 74-69, therefore Idaho is better than Montana State by 5 points
13-10 Montana State beat 12-15 UNLV 91-78, therefore Montana State is better than UNLV by 13 points
12-15 UNLV beat 9-20 Kansas State 68-58, therefore UNLV is better than Kansas State by 10 points
9-20 Kansas State beat 16-11 Oklahoma 62-57, therefore Kansas State is better than Oklahoma by 5 points
16-11 Oklahoma beat 21-9 Kansas 75-68, therefore Oklahoma is better than Kansas by 7 points
21-9 Kansas beat 28-2 Baylor 71-58, therefore Kansas is better than Baylor by 13 points

Using the transitive property, 1-21 Idaho, the worst team in CBB this year, is 53 points better than 28-2 Baylor, the national champions. Vandals baby.

the players that are quitting are a bunch of wusses. They can't deal with being hollered at when not playing like true bearcats. Let them go home to mommy.
