Bethune Cookman - 14 hours

LMAO. Unless they’re stepping up to CUSA or SBC, those 3 aren’t leaving HBCUs to join Houston Baptist.

That’s two flights a year—that’s no big deal.

I would offer the entire 5 SWAC West as a package deal which would allow them to better respect and maintain their history, traditions, and culture

That deal is worth looking into for the Southland. But, I can't see Texas Southern and Prairie View leaving the SWAC without each other or Grambling and Southern, especially now that the SWAC will be the strongest of the HBCU conferences.

If I were the LA schools, I'd push for Grambling and Southern, selling them on the Southland being a Louisiana version of the Big West with outposts in Big TX cities Houston, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi.

the Big Easy Conference

Exactly.

All conference tournaments would be in state. Attendance and ticket sales go up and travel goes way down. Might even get games on local TV like the SoCon.

You got a flimsy argument there. You’re talking about giving up decades of HBCU history over two flights a year. That’s not happening.

Conspiracy theory...

Did the SWAC add FAMU and BCU because they knew the Atlantic Sun and WAC football plans would put them at risk when it came time for the Southland to rebuild?

Here’s the wild thing. For some SWAC schools, nope still all bus trips...

RE: What is the future of the Southland Conference? - TexasTerror - 03-30-2021 05:51 PM

There’s some notion that the WAC may need to add a McNeese State or possibly an Incarnate Word (if there was greater desire to keep things in Texas) due to the lack of readiness on the part of the Division II teams.

If that came to pass, the Southland would really be up against it.

Southland will add at minimum two teams in coming months - though could be troubling if institutions aren’t WAC ready though presumably the WAC comes with a higher price tag and different expectations than the SLC

1) I don't think they will leave the SWAC - no reason two.
2) But they have more than two flights a year - since they play multiple sports

Football - will play Florida Team away most years
Basketball (Men's and Women's)
Volleyball
Baseball
Softball
Tennis (Men's and Women's)

Plus Bowling/Cross-country/Track that may or may not travel to all schools for meets.

I would be surprised if the WAC doesn’t add West Texas A&M. FB stadium, BB stadium, fan support are all there. D2 Final 4.

At this point the WAC might as well add all we can to hedge against defections. Also, that makes a nice tight Texas unit to break off on its own when it starts feeling froggy.

Why?!?! None of us want to add some of the 'options' that exist because it drags down the league. We are not in a point of desperation like the Southland is to more of a degree in light of limited options, the likely need to add Division II schools (who may or may not be ready), etc.

You got to stop this negativity!

Todor, you must be a joy at parties. Since we’ve joined all you’ve done was talk about us leaving. If you don’t like the new schools you don’t have to interact with us. But your negativity is exhausting man. You make it really difficult to even get excited about being in the conference. It’s like being married to a partner that only talks about divorce.

A lot to digest here regarding Southland expansion. Still trying to get SWAC schools, a bit of Division II school discussion as well per Matt Brown

It seems to me that WTAMU should worry more about their own future than that of the Lone Star Conference. The Southland Conference could potentially decimate the Lone Star Conference anyway.

RE: What is the future of the Southland Conference? - Nerdlinger - 04-12-2021 01:47 PM

The Lone Star Conference has 18 members, although one only has women's sports, and only 8 have FB. Currently 13 baseball and 10 men's soccer members. Offhand, I don't know what the D2-required minimum number of members is for a sport, but they do seem to have at least some room to take losses.

They could probably stomach the loss of 3 football schools, add the GNAC schools as fb affiliates, and still be ok.
