Yes!!! This is the guy I wanted. He's ready to play as a freshman. Typical old school center with a lot of post moves. A good athlete. Not someone who's going to be pushed around.

I don’t think we recruit that kind of player here. Doesn’t fit our system.

But if Buffalo wins their NIT game, and if Ohio can pull off the upset...maybe TK will open his mind to a modified version of his system & get a true “big”.

And no—Edu, for all the good things he does bring, isn’t a true “big” in the sense that he can physically “body” an opponent in the paint. That’s just not his game & he doesn’t have the body/weight/strength to do it. Now, put a solidly built 6’8” guy on the floor WITH Edu, and then 3 perimeter players? Now we may be talking...

Solidly built? 6'8"? He just left the program this morning, went by the name Mattia Acuzno.

Seems like a Bertram (Buffalo) clone with a jump shot. Definitely serviceable.

He is described on Twitter as "a versatile center who can shoot, create from the dribble, pass and finish as a cutter and also a remarkable rim protector at his 6’11"

Sounds good to me!

Exactly my point. Although I agree with the opinion that perhaps Acunzo didn’t want to play that role. It is hard to become a low post, back-to-the basket player in the paint when you’ve made your living on the perimeter, which is where Acunzo played even in high school/prep.

And so now is when I say that I read this post as “big man commit for Ball State”. ? Hopefully that explains my posts. It’s been a day.

He threw some pretty outlet passes to start the offense in this video, looks well versed in finding the open teammate on the perimeter.

Long arms, long legs, looks like a banger inside, good jump shot, excellent passer, soft touch with a pretty right handed hook shot! Not much elevation in the highlights - I didn't see a single dunk in the videos.

On the Elevation Prep video from December 2020 shows him dunking and 3-point shooting. Also lists him as 6’11 250lbs with a 7’3” wingspan. Seems to have pretty decent BB skills, passing, outside shooting and uses either hand when shooting inside. Could be a good one when refined by our coaching staff.

RE: Big Man Commit for BBall - UTfanBGalum - 03-19-2021 10:01 PM

Holly molly he looks impressive in this Youtube - plenty of dunks and blocks and quick feet for 6-11 mid-major ...and he also hits 3's with quick release..... is this commit for real? 11 pts 6 boards for u18 Romanian National team. Only shot 47% from field and 62% fro the line in 20 games with Aspire last fall and 18% from 3....Guess it was truly a highlight film but he has skills and athleticism for sure.

Other offers are odd—considering they aren’t very good, but the film tells a different story, he looks excellent on film.

That's a sales video. That's how these operations... operate. That's all the credibility I give those. I don't think there's any competition in that vid.

He's tall. He seems he can run but without knowing who else is on the floor, he may be fast, he may be slow. He may have stamina he may not. I'm skeptical of the reach. Narrow shouldered, nothing seems different about the arms. Very little muscle development. He seems he can catch a ball on the run smoothly and make a move as long as it doesn't involve putting the ball on the floor. Doesn't look like he's been taught well. Swings his arms like a standing broad jumper when elevating, this will cost RBs. Even a few where he caught the ball at belly level instead of high.

I'm guessing he's a tall project?

I’m hoping not. This program doesn’t need more “projects”, particularly in the paint. We don’t know who all is coming back for Buffalo & Ohio, but if they keep all of their key
pieces then IMO we are now at least a solid PF and back-up center away from being a MAC contender again, maybe even another PG for the roster. How TK fills these spots may have long-term impact on his career and whether he moves up the ladder.

The Blade story today on Carcoana says that UT has one more scholarship to give, likely a guard (UGH!). If Edu gets hurt again, that would mean the roster has one player taller than 6-7. There was a quote from a person at Eurohopes that called Carcoana a "tremendous get" for Toledo. That may be a placement service for European kids so I don't know what it means. Anyway, I like the kid. At least he won't have to spend three years gaining weight. There are two videos out there that I have seen. The one on YouTube has him shooting from the outside a lot. The one on Verbal Commits shows mostly an inside game.
