STF standard vs IU - uiniu57 - 03-15-2021 04:55 PM

Too bad for Archie Miller that Indiana U doesn't follow STF's standards.......68-55 for four years would certainly have equaled one extension.

If he were at NIU, he would have gotten a lifetime extension!

Maybe we should have those same expectations - and make them known to STF.

Miller's contract buyout was $10.3 million. It's the 15th-richest in the country, per USA TODAY's coaches salary database. Given the university’s very tight financial situation in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, "private philanthropic funding has been obtained for all transition costs and obligations related to the change in leadership,"

I wish NIU had some rich donors. We could of bought out MM contract 3 years ago.

Comparing IU to NIU. That is a stretch.

Per the Indy Star, 1 donor paid for the buyout.

We need that multibillionaire to step up and fund the program.

“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me."
Yes, they are. Not too many us can or even care to write a $10.5 million check to buyout a basketball coach.

Purpose wasn't to compare NIU to IU basketball.
However, since the standard for giving extensions is so vastly different, it does serve as a comparison of sorts.

Yeah, the 9 of us really have a lot of sway.

We both have an I and a U in our acronym, and lots of kids of Illinois attend each school.

Comparisons stop there.

And I saw a football game at each, the same week, :)

Fan expectations =big donor expectations
Everyone wishes for NIU donors with deep pockets to step up
But I remain concerned with how much influence they can exert on the university
On the other hand, they can help with buyouts as has happened already

68-55 would be an all time great for NIU. Beloved for a generation

Never mind Miller. Just glad I was at NIU to see Jorgensen's teams. I liked Johnny Mac too (w/Kenny Battle, who wouldn't?). But with Jorgensen on the sidecourt, any and all opponents actually respected the Huskies and knew they had their work cut out, no matter who they were. That's what I'd like to see Burno bring back ... NIU always had a chance to win against anybody (and often did). That kind of REAL pride will pack the Convo (oh, yeah ... I mean when allowed). Jorgensen's last season was 72-73 ... it's been a LOOOOONG time.
