But yeah Des has had a great pre-draft run. Malik Willis is generating hype but I'm not sure what it is exactly he's done to warrant that after the season.

Thrown the ball far is basically all I can see...someone mocked Willis to the Lions at 2 and I would quit the NFL if that happened lol.

it was something to the effect of he didn't have any bearcats in his top 300 (?) prospects, which includes Juniors and Seniors.

Watching what teams seem to be willing to give up for Deshaun Watson, I would expect all the QB's in the draft to go higher than expected.

Jim Mora said his trained eye tells him P5 teams just have better talent than UC, or something to that effect. I thought this guy is clearly dumb. Not too long after he is hired by UConn, to confirm my suspicions. lol

I think as evaluators get more and more caught up on what Des did this season with his accuracy, many of the accuracy concerns from his first 3 years start to diminish. He was damn accurate this year.

Des had more success with downfield passes last year because Alec Pearce bailed him out numerous times with jaw-dropping receptions. Des still had difficulty with the long ball, frequently either overthrowing or under throwing wide-open receivers. I hope he continues to improve, and I hope he will be a first-rounder, but you’re fooling yourself if you think he is an accurate downfield passer.

This is an interesting take, and my guess is that NFL scouts have seen the success of Josh Allen in Buffalo, Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, the Chargers quarterback Herbert, Jalen Hurts with the Eagles, the Patriots QB and several other relatively young and inexperienced quarterbacks come in and have relative immediate success in the NFL.

This is nonsense. Des was really accurate down field, often putting the ball in tight windows. And throwing the ball different based on how the coverage on the receiver(often Pierce) developed.

He fits it between the corner and safety twice against notre dame. Against Indiana he leads Pierce outside shoulder because the corner trailed. Against Houston he hit Pierce outside back shoulder because the corner was running stride for stride. His down field passing was excellent all season. Nobody completes all of them but he was ridiculously efficient down field (and outside the numbers for that matter).

Agreed...Des does have some accuracy issues, but downfield isn't one of them anymore.

Des is anamoly with how much more accurate he gets downfield.

That was the UC-Houston game 2020, where McShay and the other guys were trying to justify UC getting a playoff spot that year. He claimed that we only had 1-2 guys that were of NFL quality that year & going forward.

Falcons trade Matt Ryan. Bringing in Mariota but he's not a build around guy at this point so it wouldn't be surprising if they brought in a young guy to develop. Potential Des spot.

PFF's Renner put out a 3 round mock a few days ago:
- Sauce in R1 @10
- Ridder in R2 @42
- Beavers, Cook and Pierce all in a row in R3 (92, 93, 94)

I expect Myjai to get back up there after a healthy UC pro day.

RE: 2022 Bearcats NFL Draft Prospects - Cat-Man - 03-22-2022 10:07 AM

If you want an honest look and evaluation of Des (and some of the UC offensive concepts), watch this series of videos from from former NFL QB JT O'Sullivan. He has a Youtube channel called The QB School. He does a nice job of breaking things down play by play. Some of the overall themes are accuracy (including downfield) and decision making.

(spoiler...if it is too painful for you to see how close UC was to winning the Peach Bowl game vs Georgia, don't watch the first video. 03-lmfao)

Is there a doubt he doesn’t end up with the Steelers? They have liked guys like him since Moses wore short pants.
