No, the NFL football just looks that way because it has no stripes.

Actually, we're both wrong...college footballs are smaller in size than pro ones.

Quote:Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck threw a football during position drills in June 2018 — the first time he had done so in front of reporters since the team shut him down in October 2017 as he tried to work his way back from a 2015 shoulder injury. But during his summer practice, Luck was chucking a college football — not an NFL one.

That’s because college footballs are typically smaller than NFL ones, so it put less stress on Luck’s surgically repaired shoulder. Both college and NFL footballs weigh 14 to 15 ounces. But their overall size differs.

To get into the weeds, the circumference of college footballs ranges from 20 3/4 inches to 21 1/4 inches lengthwise from end to end, versus 21 inches to 21 1/4 inches in the NFL. At the widest point of the ball, the circumference is 27 3/4 inches to 28 1/2 inches in college and 28 inches to 28 1/2 inches in the NFL. The length from tip to tip ranges from 10 7/8 inches to 11 7/16 inches, although the NFL mandates its balls are 11 inches to 11 1/4 inches.

The variations might seem small, but NFL players can tell the difference. Quarterback Chase Daniel, who has played for six NFL teams and finished college as Missouri’s all-time passing leader, went so far as to say he could “easily” pick out which footballs were used for college versus the NFL — even if he was blindfolded. “They’re bigger here in the NFL,” Daniel says. “I like the NFL ball. I think you can spin ’em a little bit better.”

Pro Ball A Bit Bigger

I assume that the actual size depends on how it is inflated.

A lot of positive stuff about Bearcat players at the Senior Bowl workouts. Apparently, Beavers is just killing it.

Beavers, Sanders, Pierce and Bryant especially. Myjai put that big boy (6’9 360) from Minnesota on his back. Pierce was the fastest WR. The Pittsburgh Steeler scout said Beavers was the best LB there.

Some team is going to look very smart picking Pierce.

And Beavers. Would love to see him in stripes.

Beavers and Pierce have been sticking out as Patriots/Belichick guys from the start to me.

Beavers has apparently been lighting the whole Senior Bowl on fire so far...showed out so well in man during drill and 7/7 that some people are now listing him as an inside/outside guy instead of just a rush or strong backer.

Here are some quotes from profootballnetwork.

Desmond Ridder inaccurate in first Senior Bowl practice
Ridder, one of three quarterbacks for the National Team, twice fumbled the quarterback-center exchange, and the accuracy issues that concerned scouts heading into the week flared up time and again.

Splitting snaps with Nevada’s Carson Strong and Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett, Ridder didn’t take advantage of his limited reps. He airmailed back-to-back throws during one-on-ones and had a number of poor throws during team drills.

It’s not uncommon for quarterbacks to show rough edges on Day 1 of practice. They’re learning a new offense with a bunch of new teammates. In 2018, Josh Allen was bad on the first day of Senior Bowl practice but improved as the week went on
.

The Bills certainly weren’t scared off by one bad practice, and Ridder’s uneven day alone is, of course, not disqualifying.

RE: 2022 Bearcats NFL Draft Prospects - ladeda - 02-01-2022 06:33 PM

Again some quotes.

Sanders.

"The offensive linemen had some trouble with more athletic edge rushers, and Myjai Sanders was a part of that onslaught. The Cincinnati edge defender consistently had good get-off on snaps, and also toyed with blockers using his lateral agility. Sanders is explosive, bendy, and agile, but also showed he could shed blocks. The main concern with him is his size, and he’s quelling questions so far."

Beavers

"One-on-ones were a treat to watch Darrian Beavers in action. His coverage skills were terrific against a ton of smaller, quicker running backs as he stuck in their hip pocket. He couldn’t make any plays on the ball, but he was in great coverage the whole time."

Ridder

"Desmond Ridder was all over the place with his throws and missed several wide open targets. The arm strength and physical skills are obvious, but he needs a lot of work on his pass placement."

Ford

"While the Cincinnati offense didn’t quite show it, Jerome Ford was on display in the passing game. He was crisp with routes and even better at the catch point when accurate balls were placed. Ford didn’t get to show much on the ground, but his passing game was stellar."

Pierce.

"Had one bad drop but otherwise caught the ball well. I did not see much quickness or speed in his game."

After reading the comment about Pierce not have much speed in his game according to the writer @ PFN. I saw this tweet.

"WRs leading the way thus far in terms of top speeds.
Alec Pierce - 19.82 mph
Bo Melton - 18.41 mph
Romeo Doubs - 17.86 mph"

That’s likely the analog that will be made due to his skin color.

RE: 2022 Bearcats NFL Draft Prospects - rath v2.0 - 02-01-2022 06:41 PM

That quote on Ridder could have come from a whole lot of game threads on this board over the last few years. His ball placement is often off even on completions.

I can imagine some of the teams' personnel get glossy-eyed when a guy 6'4 260ish moves as good and smooth as he does.

Bearcats are trying to be the best of all time not some run of your mill receiver.
