Baseball thread - bearcat29 - 02-21-2021 09:54 PM

How did the Bearcats start their baseball season AND play 3 games on the ACC network and not one thread on it?!!

Come on man, this board is slipping! I would have been all over that this weekend.

I mean...to be fair, I think the basketball team is giving us enough losses to attempt to care about at the moment.

I watched quite a bit of game 2.

Despite getting swept, and striking out 15 times in game 1, UC looked better than they usually do at the start of the season. Starting pitching was pretty good. And game 3 went 10 innings before UC lost 8-7.

Next weekend UC is at Western Kentucky.

Agree. I think they started to find their feet in the 3rd game. I hate playing Southern teams to start the year. Northern teams are always at a disadvantage to start the season it seems like

Saw improvement from game 1 to 3. Fought like heck and came back in game 3. My hope is pitching continues to improve.

I might be in the minority, however enjoy starting the season against very good competition down south.

UC got their first win of the season in game 2 of a DH - 11-3 over Western KY today.

Nice to see the cats get a win. Is UC allowing fans to attend the baseball games this year?

Wait! There is an ACC Network?

RE: Baseball thread - Bear Catlett - 02-28-2021 08:37 AM

Looks like the weeknight games have been eliminated in favor of four game weekend series.

Bummed that they won't be making a trip up here against O$U.

UC swept Western Michigan at home and the team is now 6-7. This week they play Xavier at home Thursday/Friday and at Xavier Saturday/Sunday.

A much needed sweep--congratulations to the Bearcats.

If you haven't attended at the stadium formerly known as Marge Schott, I strongly encourage you to try it this spring. This is my third year buying a season pass. At $50.00 for the entire season it's very inexpensive entertainment--spending time on campus, soaking in some sunshine, sipping a cold beer and sitting very close to the field of play. Social distancing isn't a problem with the stadium size either. Unfortunately, between the spring weather and work, I rarely make more than half a dozen games, but that still works out to less than $9.00 a game.

The AAC is a very good baseball college baseball conference--often better than the B10. UC baseball is making progress but needs our support.

What is the current state of Cincinnati baseball and recruiting? I don't see any recruiting run downs on the baseball side of things.

Baseball probably got hit harder than just about every sport out there over the last year, with both high school and club seasons shuttered for most, if not all, of the country in 2020. I would imagine you're going to see A TON of late commits for all programs as the scouting catches up to the numbers of players out there.

If you paid for ESPN+ you can watch UC vs X on Thu & Fri 3/18-19 at 4PM on both days.

I believe the Thurs game has been moved to the following Monday. Series now begins Friday at UC.

Thanks for the update; strong storms possible tomorrow afternoon are to blame I would think. Or, stronger storms inside Varsity Village and on Bearcat Banter this week maybe?

Ha! Was told it was weather "outside" related. One never knows anymore though.

Today should be great day for some baseball. The young lads and I are heading down. Crowd for last Saturday was very good, considering UC had a bball game and weather was a bit chilly.

RE: Baseball thread - OKIcat - 03-23-2021 06:36 AM

Enjoyed a beautiful day for baseball yesterday on campus as the Bearcats prevailed 7-2 over X to gain a series split. A decent crowd--including a good UC student contingent too.

I think we'll get a better read on how our baseball program is progressing once conference play begins. The American is probably the most competitive baseball conference the Bearcats have ever competed in; certainly superior to the Big East. Here's hoping UC can compete for a championship again as it did in 2019.

RE: Baseball thread - OKIcat - 03-29-2021 07:19 AM

Giving up 21 runs yesterday in the wind and losing was tough but UC took another series 2-1 over St. Louis. A very tough opponent tomorrow evening when #7 Louisville visits and conference play begins with four games next weekend @ ECU. It appears UC was trying to conserve the best pitchers on staff yesterday for this upcoming stretch.

UC definitely has the opportunity to build a program, winning the title in 2019 and playing in the best conference of any Ohio team. As of this past weekend, the RPI by conference has the American ranked as the #5 conference. The B10 is #11. The (new) Big East is #22.

Our conference is legit for baseball. We still have the drawback of being a northern team, and that will always hurt us. We will always have to play more road games to start the season, but I think we could become very competitive in conference if this staff keeps up.
