It sucks to lose to an FCS team but no one expected NMSU to be a good FBS team. This was just another obvious example of how bad our team is.

RE: Tarleton vs NMSU Football - CW Fishman - 02-24-2021 11:39 PM

NMSU was a good member of the Sun Belt Conference, just way outside of the footprint. Many of us really hated to see them leave, especially schools that were on the western edge of the conference. Back then, they played competitively. Having said that, they are enduring a perfect storm of problems at this time. Being a FBS independent is a huge recruiting problem because players want to play for a guarantee bowl bid and conference title. Being independent almost killed the Ragin Cajun program in the 80s and early 90s, so I can feel their pain on that one. Covid and the weird schedule this year has not been kind to them either. I understand there is not a huge recruiting pool of talent in New Mexico either. Recruiting West Texas is also a difficult chore with all of the FBS and FCS schools in Texas that are affiliated with a conference. Then there is the aforementioned "rent a win" bloodbath games they are having to endure because of the financial mess they are in. Considering all of that, it is no surprise they are having difficulty beating anyone. I hope they can find a conference home for their football soon and can get back to being competitive. I think they will right the ship and I hope they do.

I’m curious, where does the “Tarleton” in Tarleton St. come from? Before your move to the WAC I never heard of TSU. I live in S. Texas but originally from NM. The only time I’ve ever seen anything Tarleton related before was a group of ladies I saw at a bar wearing Tarleton shirts. I would like to add that every single one of them was drop dead gorgeous. Maybe they were Intermediate Texan’s daughters. That might explain why he was so hot and bothered by this thread.

John Tarleton left a portion of his estate to establish the John Tarleton Agricultural College and also donated his real estate in Knoxville, TN to create the John Tarleton Institute, an orphanage to educate poor children ages 6-18. Mr. Tarleton was a colorful character and has a storied past:

Tarleton is a "cowboy college" because a lot of students are and traditionally have been from rural Texas towns.

Yessir, the Crown Jewel of the Great State of Texas. 60/40 ratio, too!

Bringing a man's family into this conversation is a below-the-belt jab typical of your kind, and I won't even dignify it with a response. Do better. 05-nono

A&M was my niece’s dream school most of the time she was in HS. She applied to Tarleton rather than AM because TAMU was just too big.

Albany, huh? :ban:The only cougar/mountain lion I have ever seen in Texas was in 2013 between Albany and Throckmorton. I had to stop while he casually crossed the road directly in front of my car. He was using the mowed area under wind turbines as a path for his walk about.

Tarleton is a good backup for A&M.

There was one mountain lion that was around my families house when I was a little kid. Coyotes, Bobcats I'll take all day. Mountain Lions, I don't have a death wish. Interesting that he was casually crossing the road.

I played at Albany. Then 1A now 2A so I'm not surprised. You need heart to play both sides of the ball and maybe special teams. Especially if, like I was you're a 175 lb 6 foot DT/OG.
