Three-star wide receiver Roc Taylor committed to Tennessee in April of 2020 and was planning on signing with the Volunteers on National Signing Day, but new head coach Josh Heupel and the staff pulled Taylor's offer on Tuesday.
With the offer gone, Memphis swooped in and quickly made an impression on the No. 440 overall player in the 2021 class. The Tigers' staff worked quickly on Taylor, and he has now signed with the program as a part of an already stacked '21 class.
After an impressive senior season which included over 1,000 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns, Taylor was a first-team all-state selection in Alabama's Class 6A. At 6-foot-2 and 212 pounds, Taylor has great size which is something Memphis has prioritized in this class.
Both of Memphis' current receivers in the 2021 class – Cameron Wright and Tyrese Johnson – are big-bodied wideouts, and Taylor fits the same mold. Taylor's thick frame allowed him to dominate smaller defensive backs at the high school level, and he should be able to use his size to his advantage from day one in college.
Taylor participated in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game, and 247Sports' Andrew Ivins was impressed by the Memphis signee during the practices leading up to the game.
"Tennessee wide receiver commit Roc Taylor has a unique build as his thick torso makes him almost look like an h-back or even tight end. Both he and fellow UT wide receiver commit Jordan Mosley got open during 7-on-7 play.
Silverfield and the staff have fully put on display their ability to recruit at a high level in the '21 class, and the addition of a player like Taylor on further proves that point. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Taylor is Memphis' highest rated commit in the class.

I'm glad we got him. I read the story on al.com about how UT dropped him at the last minute and left him hanging. His HS coach had some choice words for the whole crappy way it went down. And, if the coach means what he says, anyone representing UT should not come to any campus where he is working because he was pissed. At least now he knows why we all feel the way we do about them!

Since UT just pulled the offer yesterday, this could not be the possible surprise hinted at by Ike.
Anyway we have moved up to 46th in the rankings with this addition.

‘I didn’t want to put anybody else in that predicament,’ he said. ‘It’s not a good feeling at all to have to choose what school you want to go at the last minute. It’s not a good feeling.’
