I really thought we were the prohibitive favorite to win the West. I guess I forgot we have to play the games. After beating UTA twice, without Markquis, and splitting in Lafayette I was still feeling really good. This weekend was a wake-up call. Texas State simply looked better than us. I'm sure not counting us out, but it will be a real battle for us to win the league.

The league looks really balanced. Only team with more wins than us is AppSt, with 4, although some teams have played less games. We won't see an Eastern team until the tournament so they are really irrelevant until then.

Texas State punched us in the mouth, took our milk money then waited at the same corner and did it again today. I agree with Mickey, they simply looked better than us.

We’re just not shooting like we were last year at this point. Our defense has been looking better lately but if you’re not shooting well (by well I mean at least average), it doesn’t matter how good your defense is. I can also tell at certain points, it’s affecting them mentally. Heads are not always up and not as much fun on their faces.

Another thing to consider is that Texas st had an extra week to prep against us. Still not an excuse since we have more experience and length. Not to mention we get 5-6 days to get ready for them. But it does make you wonder if the week off they had makes an impact. They just looked better prepared and energized. I just hope it wasn’t a case of getting outcoached.

However losing like this may help us figure out our problems. It seems that in this league, it’s better to be hot late than being hot too early.

The talent is there, but losing a key starter, and then the disruption with Markquis obviously has hurt. When you have all the distractions that Covid brings, it doesn't take much of a nudge to throw a team off-balance.
