Well. Refs call all contact and really take both teams out of rhythm. LCJ had 32 and the Zips lose by 15 at Toledo. Sometimes I can't explain MAC basketball. Hit my prediction of the comfy win. Although if you watched, it was not so. Ball State next. I'm not excited to play them for some reason.

Yes, the refs really kind of ruined the flow of the game. That said when the team you're facing shoots 50% from the field, 45% from 3, and 90% from the line while also not turning it over a ton, you're not going to win. Toledo was clearly the better team last night.

I thought there was some things Akron could have done differently to give themselves a better chance. Namely I felt they should have tried to ISO Jackson on either Jackson or Littleson. Both played a good chunk of the 2nd half with 4 fouls so getting either to foul out with 6-7 minutes left would have helped a ton, especially Jackson as he's the motor that runs their offense. Toledo looked a bit lost offensively when they pulled him with like 15 min left in the 2nd half as he picked up his 4th foul. Give coach K credit as he brought Jackson back into the game with over 10 minutes left after Akron erased the deficit. He put trust in Jackson that he wouldn't pick up a 5th and Jackson delivered.

I was shocked Akron didn’t go at littleson and Jackson once they had 4 fouls. I would have driven hard on them every play and even risked an offensive foul the way those refs were blowing the whistles. Let’s hope that crew doesn’t get to do any games in Cleveland come March.

BG loses to WMU tonight, which reminded me of how valuable the pre-season poll is:

Quote: 2020-21 MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll
1. Bowling Green (8) – 132 points
2. Ohio (1) – 117 points
3. Akron (2) – 115 points
4. Buffalo – 109 points
5. Ball State – 104 points
6. Toledo (1) – 93 points
7. Kent State – 65 points
8. Eastern Michigan – 57 points
9. Miami – 48 points
10. Northern Illinois – 43 points
11. Central Michigan – 40 points
12. Western Michigan – 13 points

MAC Tournament Champions: Bowling Green (4), Akron (2), Ball State (1), Buffalo (1), Eastern Michigan (1), Kent State (1), Miami (1), Toledo (1)

They might have done better if they just drew names out of a hat.

ACTUALLY .... if you look at the poll upside down it's pretty accurate at this point. The top, with rare exceptions, is almost always wrong, albeit not a drastically wrong as this season.

Maybe this year. Last year they had Akron finishing 5th or 6th in the MAC East...

What is the record for consecutive years with a MAC team ranked? And has UB been ranked 3 straight seasons? Or 2?

Buffalo was only ranked in 2018-19.. That was for 17 straight weeks I believe.

They never got ranked in 2017-18, but ended the season receiving votes after beating Arizona.

Looks like 6 teams are dangerous to be on the schedule this year. Rockets, Zips, Flashes, Bobcats, Redhawks, and Bulls. Would love to see the MAC have 2 bids but realistically start sustaining a NCAA and a 'at-large' NIT bid and win some.

Just by standings as watched one partial OOC game early and even my own team have not watched a complete game and just over 2 games worth between 4 matches. Hope to watch the URI game this week end but will probably miss some of the beginning.

Good luck to all but especially to the top teams.

Nostrodomous... ball state shoots lights out and pulls away with their best win of the year. Outplayed, outclassed, out toughed the Rockets today. Another Todd K. sucky game on national tv.

So can we all agree that there is zero chance everyone will play the same amount of games this year?

Has the MAC come out and said winning percentage will be used in that scenario?

Right now technically Kent State, Ohio, and Buffalo are all just one out of second place in the loss column, but teams have played such a different amount of games and we are running out of time for makeups.

Actually, short of a winning run of some sort by one of the last 4 teams, the 8-team field is pretty much set. Tiebreakers for matchups, however, are a different story. MAC better issue a gameplan, soon, - not at the last minute - so folks know just what the measurables will be for seeding.

Yes, as long as a MAC tournament gets played I don't think it would be a big deal.

RE: MAC basketball 2021 ... - kreed5120 - 02-08-2021 08:44 AM

Most of you guys have been following the MAC longer than me. Can any of you recall a walk-on having as good of a season that Enrique Freeman is having this year for the Zips? He's currently 1st in the MAC in rebounds, blocked shots, and fg%. He's a legitimate contender for MAC DPOY

Seems like the COVID related postponements/cancellations are increasing (I think they’re becoming cancellations with time starting to run short.) It just doesn’t bode well for trying to hold a tournament and having the winner be able to meet the NCAA standards in time to join the Indianapolis bubble. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but if there are any positives that show up at the MAC tourney, there may not be time to quarantine before the NCAA tourney starts a few days later. Have we had a week without Covid issues? This week we have at least 3 teams that can’t play canceling 4 games, forcing 4 others to not play. And it wouldn’t be a surprise for other weekend games to bit the dust. It’s one thing for it to effect regular season games, but it’s a mess if you suddenly have to send teams home from Cleveland, especially the top seeds.

RE: MAC basketball 2021 ... - BullBoy - 02-08-2021 07:52 PM

It's actually five of six games cancelled for Tuesday.. Buffalo has with two more postponements due to opponents. UB has now had four games postponed in the last three weeks due to the other school.

RE: MAC basketball 2021 ... - kreed5120 - 02-08-2021 08:31 PM

In the case of Akron they knew their Tuesday game was going to get postponed before their game with Kent ended last Friday. We still need to make up a game with Buffalo. They could have had Akron play Buffalo tomorrow.

RE: MAC basketball 2021 ... - pono - 02-08-2021 11:28 PM

creative rescheduling would make a lot of sense. even playing non-conf games against other nearby schools stuck with a cancellation. and any games against a team you still need to play twice should switch to a back to back just to get both games in.

RE: MAC basketball 2021 ... - UofToledoFans - 02-09-2021 09:43 AM

The logistics of an NCAA tourney seems very tough. If one team gets it and they are a 1 seed, Does the 16 advance? Its a lot of teams to bubble up. What if one site has a problem? Is the whole region done?
