MBB Games 8 and 9 vs Delaware, Jan 9th and 10th - Tribeheart - 01-08-2021 01:03 PM

Delaware senior PG, Kevin Anderson, left their game with CofC last Saturday with a foot injury. No word regarding his availability or how effective, even if cleared to play. With the offseason Darling and Mutts transfers, and big Alex Novakovich having not played, since before Xmas (injury?), UD may be down to 7 scholarship players.

This may be the best opportunity for a two game sweep that we see the rest of the way, if Anderson is not 100%. Luke should be able to tamp down senior SG nemesis, Ryan Allen, but because of their other guards' size, there may be a defensive mismatch for Juri. C Dylan Painter clearly has an advantage. They average a CAA best 7.5 three pointers per game, but have shot poorly recently. Seems like our young depth should be able to expose their roster thinness over both days.

Love to see us finally have a strong weekend from beyond the arc that we are capable of, then get Painter in foul trouble with penetration. Would, also, love to see us applying full court pressure early on.

Go Tribe!

I'm interested to see who steps up for us. We can't expect Luke to play the way he did against Hofstra every game. Yuri seems to have regressed since the early games. I'm hoping he gets his mojo back.

I think "regressed" is a strong word for a freshman who hasn't played 10 games yet. I also think that we can expect Luke to play the way he did against Hofstra. He's that good. I agree that we can't rely on him to play like that in order to win, though.

Also, I felt two of the four offensive fouls against Yuri could have gone the other way, with different referees. Depends on how the referees for this weekend see things.
If he only gets two of those fouls, maybe it doesn't get into his head and he plays like in earlier games. We'll see.

Let's just hope they get played....

Tony Bennett basically said that getting games played is a primary goal before their game against Wake. That game followed a postponement from Saturday due to COVID against VT.

Getting any on court experience against real competition is a win right now.

Although I don't have FLO and have no plans to subscribe, I enjoyed listening to both games. I thought the Tribe showed a lot of fight. If they are able to play and stay healthy, I think we will see improvement over the next 2 months. I am grateful for the opportunity to listen to Jay and Kris. But, I am looking forward to the time we can all go to Kaplan, Zable, a tournament game, or a road game again.

Hoping for a win tomorrow against the CAA opponent I despise the most.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but here are his scoring stats and minutes from game one until today.
Scoring
13, 16, 10, 12, 12, 3, 0

Minutes
30, 38, 30, 27, 34, 16, 22

Yes, fouls are part of this. Maybe a slump is a better designation than regression.

Game notes for Delaware states Thornton Scott, "Has stepped away from the team for personal reasons."

I hope everything is ok and works out for him. Performance up and down aside, he always seemed like a good teammate and a model W&M student athlete from everything I saw.

Best of luck to him and hope everything works out. Scholarship student-athlete who exceled in the classroom. If he doesn't return, it opens an opportunity to bring in a C/F grad transfer.

Thornton is a quality student athlete. Hope he can return to the team when it is right for him.

Gotta make 'em pay when we get those turnovers. 0 for 2 there.

Good start by offense hitting first two 3's plus nice pentation by Covington for layup.

Better start than the last couple of games.

I like how Jake plays. Aggressive. Getting smoother as he gets his legs back.
