3rd and 2 - jarr - 01-01-2021 03:54 PM

All you have to do there is qb sneak, and if dont make it I honestly would have gone for it on 4th. Game over. If you punt it on 4th instead, GA gets the ball with 45 seconds to go and no TOs on the 20 yd line. Throwing a contested pass 20 yds down the field is the dumbest playcall I have seen in years.

Life of a Bearcat fan, always close but not close enough. Hopefully Fick comes back and we bring it next year. It was a fun year though.

RE: 3rd and 2 - Former Lurker - 01-01-2021 03:59 PM

Terrible call for sure.

RE: 3rd and 2 - UCBearcatlawjd2 - 01-01-2021 04:03 PM

Execution was bad, but I believe in taking clock everytime unless you have the passing game to ice it.

RE: 3rd and 2 - Bear Catlett - 01-01-2021 04:06 PM

Georgia had no time outs and...

They pass.

Even if they don't make it on the run, you can run 40 seconds off the clock. STUUUUUPID.

RE: 3rd and 2 - UCBearcatlawjd2 - 01-01-2021 04:10 PM

To me it’s more about what is your best play. What are you good at. 2009 team throws it there. This team should have run Riddee in that spot.

RE: 3rd and 2 - iBinturong - 01-01-2021 04:11 PM

Bad play call. Agree, clock is more important at that stage of the game. Hopefully this bad taste motivates Fickell/Freeman to come back and complete the deal next year.

RE: 3rd and 2 - jarr - 01-01-2021 04:11 PM

To further add to my frustration, Ridder snapped it on 1st down and 2nd down with 15-20 seconds each time. So flipping dumb. As Mo Egger says, hire a common sense coach. DUMB

Clock wasn't running. UGA had taken their timeouts on 1st and 2nd down:

1st & 10 at CIN 32
(1:48 - 4th) Jerome Ford run for a loss of 1 yard to the Cincy 31
(1:47 - 4th) Timeout GEORGIA, clock 01:47
2nd & 11 at CIN 31
(1:43 - 4th) Desmond Ridder pass complete to Bruno Labelle for 9 yds to the Cincy 40
(1:41 - 4th) Timeout GEORGIA, clock 01:41
(1:41 - 4th) Timeout CINCINNATI, clock 01:41
3rd & 2 at CIN 40
(1:34 - 4th) Desmond Ridder pass incomplete to Michael Young Jr.
(1:34 - 4th) Timeout CINCINNATI, clock 01:34

RE: 3rd and 2 - mptnstr@44 - 01-01-2021 04:36 PM

Run it on 3rd and 2.
Don't get the first down run it on 4th.
Keeping the ball out of their hands kept UC in control of the outcome.
as soon as we punted we put control of the outcome in UGA's hands.

The coaching staff has been so good at managing end of game all year only to blow it in the biggest game.

RE: 3rd and 2 - BigDawg - 01-01-2021 04:36 PM

Great season guys and we played without a lot of key pieces and the brain fart by Hudson was a huge killer and we still fought and proved we were deserving.

The snapping it with over 10 seconds was a huge mistake. I'm fine if you do it with 3 so the defense doesn't fire off the line at 1, but that was 20 seconds right there. I'm curious if that was a RPO and Ridder saw him so wide open that he went for it. They strung out the run well, but if you are going to throw it, go short. Still would have just looked at my o-line and said, win it with a power run. If we get half of it, maybe we run the clock down and do it a 2nd time or we punt and they have less time.

Hopefully they learn. Proud of them and I would say our huge missing pieces cancel out the Opt Outs for Georgia, so we proved we belonged. Curious to see who comes back next season. Really hope to get another year with Freeman, but he is going to get some serious looks from some good programs as a head or a top DC gig. Hopefully we can get at least one more year and take care of unfinished business. Next year we run the table and I think we would have a shot to make the playoff.

That is literally the exact scenario that won us the UCF game last year...and we decided to do the exact opposite. It's just mind-boggling. I don't think I will ever be able to wrap my head around how we lost this game.

I believe you are correct, but it was 1st and 2nd down before we picked up our first first down of the drive. Even the announcers commented on Ridder snapping it too early.

RE: 3rd and 2 - bearcatdp - 01-01-2021 04:40 PM

Agree with everything said here. I don't think you'll find anyone who will disagree. You have to win all 4 quarters, not just 3 of them. We belonged in that game but we should have won. I'm glad we were there but we got in the way of ourselves in the last quarter. I would have rather Des had taken a sack on that 3rd down play than throw the ball. Run the damn ball and run the damn clock.

RE: 3rd and 2 - Edgebrookjeff - 01-01-2021 04:48 PM

He's always been a coach that takes chances, because he believes in his players. In last years game against UCF he went for 4th&1 on his side of the 50 with less than 2 minutes to go, and won the game. In his 2nd year, he went for it on 4th down multiple times at UCLA, and did it on 4th down at the goal line to seal the win.

He coaches on being aggressive and he coaches that way. I don't have a problem with it. Win or lose, he shown that the bearcats belong in the top 10 and maybe the playoff. Maybe on 3rd and 2 Ridder had a run/pass option. Young was wide open, but the pass hung in the air giving the GA defender time to make a play.

People on Twitter keep putting this on the coach as well, but why? The coach doesn’t snap the ball. The QB, who we here is a student of the game and a leader, has to know to wait till there is no time left on the play clock.

Probably was worried Metz couldn’t hold his stance for any length of time lol.

Well if he doesn't snap it early Metz will false start, so what's the big deal???

Lol, that’s what I posted right before you as well.

I’m anxious to see if Hudson returns next year. With Harper possibly also leaving (unless he utilizes his extra Covid year) I’m nervous about the Tackle situation. Hopefully some of the young guys are ready to step in.

What exactly is the tackle situation? It looks like metz then nobody.. I don't want to pile it on metz but bruno could've done just as good and he's not even on the OL
