OT - Non AAC Bowl discussion - slhNavy91 - 12-29-2020 07:22 PM

D'Eriq King helped off field w apparent right knee injury.

The Miami qb (transfer from Houston) had declared he would return for 2021.
Hope it isn't serious

Don't get me wrong. If there is a line to hate on Miami, tell me where, I'm queueing up.

But I hope for the best for King.

In each game tonight, we've had a call for illegal block below the waist on the Defense.
I get the intent of the rule for player safety.
On replay, I get it on the call - outside of play in the interior line.

Just weird to hear "illegal block" on the defense who aren't blocking, they're trying to tackle.

I know you're not a pirate fan, but I hope you watched those games illegally so as to avoid contributing to the p5 monopoly ratings.

Sadly, I am streaming (meaning ESPN is counting me).

I bet that most posters here, like me, don't have a Nielsen box on the TV. So watching/not watching on your cable TV hookup doesn't impact ratings.

For the Tulsa and Cincinnati bowl games, I will stream on max devices including having the returned college daughters stream on their phones whether they care or not.
Doing my little part.

Bowl game competitiveness has been wavering for a few years but this season it's really in the dumps. Outside of CCU-Liberty, Marshall-Buffalo which were really good and a couple other "good/decent" games it's been a whole lot of garbage. Given the NFL opt outs and covid situation it's not surprising. With that said, ESPN needs its programming at this point. Even if it sucks...

Just a shame what the bowls have become. I used to be so jacked up for the different teams/matchups.

Martin County.

Back in the 80's, that was pretty well known as Burt Reynold's country. It's amazing how much that area has grown in the last 1/3 of a century!

I would describe Martin County or Stuart as "The place where there is no I95 - you jump on the turnpike, then farther south get back on I95 and continue on your trip." And then I would say "where there used to be no I95" That very apt description has become less and less useful over the years.
We had slow growth proponents on the County Commission for a long time, so things didn't explode as bad as some other places.
It's still home - Mom is in the same house. It's been home as I've traipsed around the world for three decades.

It's because the match ups are crap. The SEC has eleven bowls and nine of them are versus other p5 teams while a team like Coastal can't get on the field ahainst one because they don't belong! All we heard about was how good the SEC was this year (every year really) after a mediocre OU team hands big bad florida its ass, it's that they don't care. What? I have never been around a college or pro athlete who was not ultra competitive and cared about every win loss. Hell pick up games can turn brutal.

It's a joke because ESPN made it into one so they could get the teams they think people want to see, the same as in the playoff. It's like competition isn't why we watch sports. The olympics is full of people most people don't know, but.we watch to see the competition. How much would we watch if it was just the US, China, Russia and then working Great Britain, or Japan, maybe Australia just to switch it up.
