Per this report, Hawaii will have to find a new home in 2021.

Is there a new home?

They might have to de-camp for the mainland and play their "home" games in the lower 48.

Wow! This is rough. I wonder how big the largest high school stadium in Oahu is—that’s what Hawaii is going to have to work with unless they play mostly road games next season.

There is a 20k seat stadium in Maui that could be used in the interim

Whew....BYU doesn't travel to Hawaii until 2025 when their new stadium will be done. It will be a smaller venue with less revenue for Hawaii which combined with the covid troubles could spell serious financial issues.

It's a shame this is how Aloha Stadium goes out. That place has a lot of history with the locals.

Maui is the best solution by far. Will it be great? No, but it'll work for 2 seasons.

And let's face it - a 20k stadium will fit Hawaii's actual number of fans just fine.

Are there any actual solid plans to replace Aloha?

Gov. signed a bill in the summer of 2019 that approved funding for replacement. Should be ready by 2023

So there are no other stadiums on Oahu?

Nope...not as big as Maui

Fascinating read on Aloha Stadium

It'll be fine for 2 years...it is like a 20 min flight.

Might need that temporary home for more than two years...

Quote:The state expects to initiate the request for proposals (RFP) process by mid-2021, and execute a contract with the eventual developer by the end of the year. Whether the new stadium will be completed by September 2023, as originally projected, remains a question mark. But here’s hoping.

This is the Maui stadium. Among other things, the university would need to add stadium lighting suitable for playing televised night games, or just start every home game early enough to finish well before dusk.

Games that start at night in Hawaii start/end in Hawaii so late in the rest of the US it's a good thing that they don't play night games there.

That stadium looks like one of those hillbilly shacks that has had 3 non-permitted additions...one ugly stadium

My inner ocd is going apeshit

I enjoy looking at old stadiums but that is a depressing looking stadium. They would have to some upgrades for a FBS school to play in it right?

RE: Aloha Stadium in trouble - Not able to host Hawaii for 2021 - IWokeUpLikeThis - 12-19-2020 12:39 PM

Could you imagine that scoreboard and press box in an FBS game?
