Must read article. Even if we have no stake, good to see others in the media sick of this crap.

Great article. FINALLY someone with a voice calling out the playoff garbage.

RE: Article: Sports Illustrated calling out selection committee bias - uab278 - 12-16-2020 07:34 PM

The Comish from the AAC called the playoff committee out today on Paul Finebaum. He makes some very good points especially about OSU. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30534280/aac-commissioner-says-deck-stacked-group-5-college-football-teams

Outstanding article!

Yet nothing will change and to be honest....

they dont care about articles like this as long as its talking about G5. There could be 10 articles each and every day. Wont make any difference because they control the outcome and the money.

That is the facts of it.....

not one person with an ounce of clout is listening or cares about whats said in this article.

Yes. Or, this starts a real conversation. Which it seemingly has

I know this sounds crazy, but if schools affected (UCF, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina) wanted to, they could easily lawyer up, and sue the NCAA for financial damages due to reasonable cause and inadequate access. Especially, this year, as a case can be made against this committee, and in turn, the NCAA.

Pat Forde has a voice, he's not a scrub in the space.

The NCAA has no say so in the matter and I bet the G5 gave the P5 voting power just so they wouldnt cut us out of every dollar. So going to court would be about like saying...

I signed the agreement knowing full well I gave all the power to the other group. Knowing they could make any rules or change the rules they made to to do whats best for that group of schools. Now I change my mind even if they are abiding by those rules.

Court cant step in and do anything when rankings are based on judgement and that judgement can be made any how they want it to be. The schools now claiming to be hurt are the same ones that voted to give them the power in the first place.

Like it or not and no matter how much we think it stinks. There's not a damn thing the courts can do about it.

edit: anyone with an ounce of sense can tell they are using two different metrics to rank P5 and G5 schools. But anyone with an ounce of sense should have known that would be the case before giving the P5 all the voting power. When those conferences hold all the cards and make up most the value in dollars generated from college football.....

you take what they give you. Or you get even less

I don't know. It would take major guts, but it won't change unless those schools directly affected do something about it.

Otherwise, this committee and playoff set up will continue on.

It's just far too corrupt to continue as is.

The presidents of the G5 schools know the above to be true and they are not going to challenge the cartel because they know the total value for the G5 is even less than the crumbs we get from the current setup.

This is the perfect year to see that...G5 had national TV games with very little other college FB or sports in general to compete against. TV ranks were less than half and sometimes 80% less than games shown last season.

It is what it is and the honest truth the dollars come from those P5 programs. One other thing, I dont think for one second that if Coastal Carolina had played a Big 12 or SEC schedule they would have less than 2 losses. Even in a 6 game schedule.

I know ULL beat Iowa State but lets leave out the committees judgement...

the eye test tells anyone that watched CC and Iowa State for every game...Iowa State is the better team. Personally I dont think its really fair but life isnt fair and the field isnt level and our schools knew this when they signed up for it. So you live by your agreement. Fair or not.

We don’t know if Coastal would be undefeated with Iowa State’s schedule, but we do know Iowa State wouldn’t be undefeated with Coastal’s schedule.

The “eye test” is just bull****. No one on that committee, or outside of that committee, sat and watched every CC and Iowa St game. I think that’s what really pisses people off, saying “fairness” and “objectivity” and then all but admitting that G5’s are out. Just say it. We’re out. The CFP is a P5 championship. It’s not controlled by the NCAA anyway so they can call it whatever the hell they want and send invites in the same manner.

Once they admit it, though, G5’s have no remedy...which is essentially true now. What leverage do we have when the P5 shoved the NCAA itself out of their postseason? We can argue logic, bias, and lay out sensible plans, but it’s just noise.

Yep sure is a must read. It’s a crime for both UL and CCU being disrespected as we are now but we all know this won’t be corrected. Thanks for sharing.

If coastal played in the big 12, they would have recruited in the Big 12 and have a whole different team. This argument is always dumb to me. They don’t play in the Big 12. What we do know is that the Big 12, as a whole, has not defeated one sun belt team this year.

If you want respect, go on the road and beat a good team, right? Well the sun belt did that, and still get no respect. If Louisiana is the 19th best team in the country, fine I can live with that. What I can’t live with is a team they beat by 17 at their place being called 5 or 6 or whatever they are with 2 losses. The system is flawed, the committee is flawed. Florida lost to a piece of crap LSU team and was barely even punished.

RE: Article: Sports Illustrated calling out selection committee bias - uab278 - 12-17-2020 08:26 AM

UL has played a legit schedule. You came back and beat UAB at Legion and Iowa St, who is an upset away from being in the playoffs. CCU and BYU played each other and CCU won. That may be the best game of the year. Only other game is Clemson and ND and I think Clemson rolls ND if they have Lawrence. There is a part of me that wishes Cinci and Coastal play (assuming both win) if they get shut out.

Aresco gets it. I googled Judy's name in the news. There's like nothing. Some quotes from school rags in our leage and little else back to February. Google aresco and its cycle after cycle of him backing and championing his schools. Stark difference.

RE: Article: Sports Illustrated calling out selection committee bias - pilot172000 - 12-17-2020 09:13 AM

The article was on point and you will see more pop up. Even Chris Childers and Rick Neuheisel on ESPNU radio have been calling into question the legitimacy of the CFP committee. It is completely beyond belief that an Ohio State who has only played 5 games with one being against a winning team will get into the playoff and a Cinncinatti who has played a much better schedule of 9 games is slowly moved to the back. The also mentioned how the Big12 who went 0-3 against the Sunbelt this year can be placed ahead of teams they have lost to in the Sunbelt. The system is a complete sham and we should have never left the BCS system for a group of P5 cronies. The BCS should have been used to fill in the 4 team play off and the human element left out.

RE: Article: Sports Illustrated calling out selection committee bias - blazers9911 - 12-17-2020 09:26 AM

BCS was 2/3 human.

The P5 writers just now realizing this? They are part of the problem, just read some of their tweets....
