I still think Western is the class of CUSA, but maybe we're ready to compete a year earlier than I originally thought.
Also, it speaks volumes that at this point in the year, throw records out the door.
For example, 1-3 UNT is still top 5 in CUSA, yet 4-1 Rice is #13 out of 14 in the Ken Pom...

I agree. Western is the darling. We are too streaky. Live by the 3, die by the 3... and we didn’t shoot the 3 well against the BoobKitties. West had some nice steals and assists, but he also had 10+ turnovers. Gotta get that cleaned up.

We live and die by the 3?!? We’ve attempted an average of 2 more per game than our opponents.
West has 12 turnovers in 4 games. That’s 3 per contest. I would love to see him get that down to between 1 and 2, but he always has the ball in his hands so his numbers will of course be a little higher.
There is room for improvement as a team but that was a very solid win Sunday.

I think the criticism of West is fair, it doesn't make him a bad player. I've always felt he is a shooting guard in a point guard's body, He's not a natural ball handler or true point guard, but he's a great off-ball defender. He's our best distributor currently, I am hopeful that Andrew Taylor could potentially grow into that role, I think that would really open up our team, but that's just nitpicking.
Regardless, West is a solid player, it's hard to compare West after just having years of the perfect point guard, but this is a solid team, not too many weaknesses.
We have size, so we could play an inside or outside game if need be.

There’s nothing to criticize him about this year. He’s as rugged of a defender as there is in CUSA.
He’s shooting 50% from the field and nearly 80% from the FT line. He’s scoring 15+ ppg. He has more steals (13) than turnovers (12) and he just helped force Ohio’s all-everything guard to 6 turnovers.
West isn’t perfect but I’ll take what he’s giving the team on a night-in, night-out basis, every day of the week.
I expect there to be bumps in the road along the way but I feel Marshall has been just a little better each time it has taken the court. That Wright State win could look much bigger in a couple of weeks. Or not. You just never know.

I wasn't expecting a championship this year but for us to be 0-3 vs D1 competition is a bit disappointing to say the least. The first two games (not counting our NAIA game) we shot something like 6-17 and 8-19 on FREE THROWS with one game only scoring 12 points in the 1st half....then our game this past Saturday we had a 10 point first half lead but end up with 19 turnovers, had 0 FGs the last 2:30 minutes of game and end up losing on a long distance 3 at the buzzer. Tonight we play at 1-4 Lamar who's in the 250s RPI/NET rankings.

Ironically after this post, West played his worst game of the season and maybe the past two. Just didn’t go well for him. One of those games.
Hopefully he shakes it off and is good to go next time out. I have confidence in him.

Here is how I think teams will end up
Marshall - Strong returning team and good incoming class
North Texas - No bad losses, but no good wins either
WKU - Strong post presence. Could end up #1.
La Tech - They always seem to play well
Charlotte - Lost some good players and brought in some good players.
UTSA - Returning a lot of players, but yet to win over a D1 team
ODU - No bad losses so far
UAB - Started strong, but teams that don't play anyone will do that
FAU - Returning a lot of scorers, but it won't be enough
FIU - Lost a lot of players from last season
UTEP - Big win last night. Could be the sleeper team of the year
MT - MT going to sneak into the tournament
Rice - As with UAB they have played a weak schedule so far. Weakest in CUSA so far.
Southern Miss - It is not looking like a good year for you guys.

Looking at our 17 man roster and only 3 played quality minutes last year (Stevenson, Draine, and Art) once CUSA play started. Malone started most if not all OOC games but was dismissed from team after the 5th CUSA game but he isn't even a starter or much of a contributor this year to this point

When I saw some of the polls that came out earlier with Tech ranked around 6th-7th in the conference I felt insulted and disrespected. Now that I've seen us play a few games I no longer feel insulted and disrespected.
