Gameday at Coastal Carolina - Dukeman2 - 12-04-2020 09:49 PM

20 million media mentions expected on gameday.

“This is part of what our concept and vision was when we moved to FBS, knowing we’d be on a greater stage with an opportunity to bring terrific exposure to the university," said AD Hogue.

Wait, DukeDawg and Nation said this was impossible.

And they lectured us that ODU would never get a home game against VA Tech or UVA.

And just a few weeks ago DukeDawg told us that Coastal Carolina's season was "meaningless"

Duke Dag 8/11/20

“this season is so done …. 2020 will be a year without college football”

Duke Dawg 8/13/20

“App State and Marshall won’t be playing is 2020”

But App State is on ESPN tonight.

Epic Mind Blown

It would appear my fellow Duke Droid is due for a firmware update. Perhaps even a hardware update! We are not designed to be so laser focused on discrediting others!

I still can't believe Coastal. Talk about falling up the stairs. I listened to espn radio in the car yesterday and it was a lot of Coastal Carolina love.

App State must be green with envy.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - jmudukes001 - 12-05-2020 08:19 AM

Yes, a lot of Coastal talk on ESPN and ESPN radio this week and really the last couple months. Will be a fun game to watch. Battle of 9-0 teams. BYU should win but rooting for Coastal. Coastal did get lucky that BYU was open this week and could step in for Liberty.

You can’t help but think that could be us at 9-0 and ranked 15th instead of Coastal. Obviously it could be us instead of Liberty ranked in the top 25. Imagine the excitement.

Looking forward to watching it today.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - JMUNation - 12-05-2020 08:44 AM

Happy for Coastal. We all love an underdog. Happy for Liberty and App. Any school that breaks through and outperforms the schools in the P5 cartel I root for their success. I don’t envy these schools. The P5 makes their climb so difficult. It hordes the money and media exposure and leaves them with the crumbs. Theirs is a tough fight for exposure.

Question for Dukeman. Prior to this year, what accomplishment of any significance have Coastal and Liberty achieved? They have spent millions on facilities, scholarships etc. Have they done so just for this one year of exposure?

Let’s not assume their good fortune continues. Wasn’t Northern Illinois is a New Years Day bowl not that long ago. How about that great season by Kent St.? What happened to Apps last two coaches? Hired away right? The cartel allows the G5 to spend crazy amounts of money in search of relevancy then steals away their coaches, places them in no name bowls and they fall back into irrelevance. You can’t beat The Man Dukeman because he who has the riches owns the Kingdom. This is the history of big business and the cartel is big business.

I will continue to enjoy the success of any underdog though.

Unbelievable season for Coastal- will be interesting to see if they have staying power. Will they be Northern Illinois or Western Michigan or App State even Boise like? They positioned themselves for this opportunity and are making the best of it so kudos to them I’m just a little skeptical that it could be a one year thing. Even it is there is a ton of value to the exposure for years to come that they will benefit from. Can they leverage this for something greater (ie VCU and Mason or Wichita State) or are they Loyola Chicago? Time will tell but great for them. Just wanted to point out that it could be a launching pad or fleeting as well. Great story either way.

I do think Liberty is different- what they have accomplished in hoops and football is impressive given their conference affiliation and lack of conference affiliation. They do have tons of money though from online and the fact that they are a flagship religious institution so I’m sorry I don’t see any comparison to JMU that can be drawn. Their situation is completely different than ours but hey good for them.

Dukeman's excited for a school to host College Gameday for the first time. Imagine if that happened at his Alma Mater. Could you imagine if JMU hosted it twice??? WOW!!

Yeah and imagine if it wasn’t a watered down CGD that didn’t place during a pandemic with wall to wall fans etc.

Man we had a pretty good time those weekends over our passion for James Madison University didn't we. I have missed seeing a lot of you on campus and catching up over copious beverages while being packed in to Bridgeforth Stadium this season.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - FBS Dave - 12-05-2020 11:36 AM

I’m not sure who to support here, upstart CC and their climb through FBS or Indy BYU and their long shot quest for the CFP.

Great story for this game and great exposure for both programs.

JMU gently sleeps.

Exactly! Why is this so difficult for so many here to understand? Is it a lack of vision or simply being contrary for the sake of being contrary and following the crowd?

Writ large in your presumption is that Coastal is finished after this season, as though they are only lucky to be where they are. How can you possibly say that? Coastal is obviously damned good!

CCU's closest game this year was a 3-point win against then-undefeated, #21 Louisiana, 30-27. The 8-1 Ragin' Cajuns are stil ranked at #25. The Chants' next closest win was spanking Ape State by 11. They also destroyed both GSUs and Big 12 Kansas by 15.

CCU certainly does not suck this year and I predict that 2020's success for the Chants will translate into big-time recruiting capital now and into the future. The shame is that could be JMU in that position.

Check that. "Shame" is far too mild a term.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - jmudukes001 - 12-05-2020 05:48 PM

Exciting atmosphere in Coastal. Attendance limited to 5k.

BYU looks like a bigger better team to me.

Loved the “Mormons vs Mullets” t-shirts.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - Middle-aged-Duke - 12-05-2020 06:11 PM

Go Chants!! This could be Jmu in the next 10 years!

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - Purple - 12-05-2020 06:15 PM

After stopping the Mormons on their first drive, the Chants march 94 yards down the field, straight into the LDS endzone, but miss the PAT. 6-zip, Chants!

Have we not spent millions on facilities? What exposure have we gotten? An 11:00 am game in a soccer stadium? Time will tell how this season plays out for Coastal for the long term. They could be like Northern Illinois and western Michigan and flame out after one season in the sun or they could leverage this and grow like Boise state or UCF. But at least they are trying.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - Purplehazed - 12-05-2020 06:28 PM

I can't get my head around BYU is playing Coastal Carolina in South Carolina.

RE: Gameday at Coastal Carolina - jmudukes001 - 12-05-2020 06:32 PM

Exciting game so far. Crowd really into it.

BYU 7-6 early in the second.
