What a man, what a life. WOW Best NFL running backs ever imo: 1- Jim Brown 2- Walter Payton 3- Barry Sanders 4- Emmitt Smith 5- too hard to say, too many deserving of a top 5 slot The top 4 really stand out from the pack, each for different reasons. Jim Brown was the most dominate by far. Walter was the best all around, Barry was the human highlight reel, Emmitt had the heart of a lion and the durability that is unmatched. People who downplay Emmitt for supposedly playing behind the greatest O line are stupid. He only had a great line and team behind him for about 4-5 years. The rest of his career was on sub par teams, several were just flat out bad. Yet he still had 11 consecutive 1000 yard seasons, and those 11 were bookend with 950 yards seasons. INCREDIBLE.
