RE: Monarchs Playing Pro Ball - NC ODUFan - 10-25-2020 06:05 PM

At the risk of this post being unpopular, I was looking at NFL box scores and see that a rookie QB from JMU played today for the Cowboys, certainly didn't expect that.

Cool. But this has to do with MONARCHS in the pros, how?

Looks like jeremy Cox was credited with a solo tackle. Guessing he must have played on kick offs. Whatever it takes to stay on the roster. He'll get his chance at RB.

Tackle on opening kickoff. Had a nice block on a run by Gordon.

Next week we will likely see the JMU QB for the Cowboys and the ODU WR for the Eagles in the Sunday night game. Who would have ever thought? I just cannot root against the Pokes, but I hope Fulgham has one hell of a game.

Its not unpopular as much as its irrelevant on this board esp this thread.

It may not be relevant to ODU but its not totally irrelevant. Some of the threads on here get pretty wide swaths. If the post is unpopular it will go away on its own. Just let it lie.

Nobody within the Cowboys organization expected that.

And no one on the whole Cowboys team retaliated, much less said one single word, to the guy who knocked out Dalton. They are not a team, they have no self respect. They deserve all the bad Karma they receive.

No i don't have a problem with that post i am just saying its more irrelevant than unpopular. That is all. If Message board threads were trains they would defy all laws of physics :)

So I watched the Broncos game from Sunday. Cox definitely got in on special teams as well as on offense. He did get a tackle on a kickoff to get his first "stat". On the negative side, KC returned a kickoff for a TD and Cox got completely destroyed with a block. It was really hard to see. I had to slow it down and go frame by frame to determine if it was him, but I'm sure it was. He was near the lead of the wave of tacklers heading down field. I'm not sure if he slipped (field was a mess with the snow) when he was blocked, or if he tripped over the legs of another blocker while being blocked, but he was pancaked and on the ground as the returner ran by. It's unusual to see a defender on the ground on a kickoff return. Probably wouldn't be a big deal, but since the play resulted in a touchdown, I'm sure there will get extra scrutiny in the film room.

On offense, he played the traditional fullback position and the Broncos ran the ball every time. At some point, they will have to do something different because they are tipping off the play when he is on the field. He threw some good blocks and the great Kevin Harlan gave him a compliment for one of the blocks. But no mention of Old Dominion.

Phillip Lindsay is in the concussion protocol after getting injured in the game. If he can't play this week, maybe they can expand the playbook for Cox, or at least he will remain on the active roster for another week.

Was watching Coward last night for the Bears. He seemed to do OK against Aaron Donald. And Aaron Donald is so darn quick off the snap.
There was one mistake he made where the Bears were facing 4th and 1 deep in their own territory. Coward flinched before the snap and was called for a penalty. But Foles, on a QB sneak, got stuffed and didn't pick up the first down. Because there was movement before the snap, the penalty could not be declined so the Bears got to punt instead of turning it over on downs. So it worked out good for the Bears, and the announcers correctly called it. But there was some heated discussion on the sidelines between Coward and the coaching staff after the play.

Yeah, Coward got destroyed like almost all guards do against Donald. I have no idea how we blocked him so well when we played Pitt.

Morrell really handled Donald in that game. It resulted in Morrell getting a shot with the Bills.

It's a league that players who want a shot at the NFL go to help showcase themselves. From what I understand the players have to pay to play but get room and board included. It's been around for a few years but with covid going on some of the tv networks picked up the games this season.

Cox back to the practice squad, but valued enough that they protected him this week.

Ximines eligible to leave IR this week but there's uncertainty about his availability or effectiveness at this point (also an unflattering note in fan comment section--I'm shocked!)

Fulgham picked as a fantasy starter against the Cowboys.
