Great as it postpones another loss.

HELLLLohhhh!..helllohh!..hellohh!..helloh!..Anybody heeeerrrr?..anybody heeeerrrr?...anybody heerrr?..LOL

So, if you would've told me the 2020/21 basketball season about mid way through would have the following true...

Cincinnati in last place in the conferece at 1-4 and 3-7 overall
ACC with only three teams ranked and none are named UNC or Dook
Michigan St unranked and in the bottom third of the B1G standings
Boise St undefeated and in first place in the MWC [9-0] and 13-1 overall
Kentucky unranked, middlin' SEC, and 4-9 overall

There's probably a few others I missed but yeah, weird year indeed.

I think the weird season has been particularly difficult for teams with a ton of roster turnover the last couple years. I think inability to have consistent practice has hurt these teams far more. Uk and Duke fit that mold. So does uc.

So, Kentucky gains a quality loss.

Kentucky 5-10 [4-4] 59

Watched some of Butler v Uconn. Butler appears to have a lot of similarities to our current plight.

The only bright spot in my season so far has been watching UK totally suck.

Michigan St is now 3rd from the basement in the B1G...

MSU 8-5 [2-5] 37
Rutgers 9-6 [5-6] 67

This is such a weird season...there's going to be an asterisk the size of Jupiter next to the National Champion if it is anyone outside of Gonzaga, Baylor, Michigan, or Villanova

RE: 2020-2021 College Basketball Season Thread - UCGrad1992 - 01-31-2021 09:08 AM

Admittedly, I'm not watching much college basketball these days due to UC not playing for about a month. Yesterday was not a good day for a number of ranked teams...

9 Alabama [14-4] 61
24 Oklahoma [11-4] 66

Florida [10-4] 85
11 West Virginia [11-5] 80

14 Wisconsin [13-5] 71
Penn State [6-7] 81

16 Florida State [10-3] 65
Georgia Tech [8-5] 76

8 Virginia [11-3] 51
20 Virginia Tech [13-3] 65

15 Kansas [11-6] 61
18 Tennessee [12-3] 80

21 Minnesota [11-6] 62
Purdue [12-6] 81

Gonzaga is almost unstoppable. I am very interested in learning more about their plays.

Time would be better spent learning about their recruiting and players.

I think Baylor is every bit as good as Gonzaga. Very similar to the year where Gonzaga lost to unc in the finals. 2 teams clearly better than everyone else. Upsets happen but those two are heavy favorites.

That, and how they manage to maintain a high major program in a mid major conference. There are many on this board who say that's impossible and we need to give up, despite the AAC being a better conference than the WCC.

They have a hall of fame coach that stayed and have used his continued success to ramp up investment in facilities. The continued success / elite facilities has upped the talent willing to go there. That's the formula. Uc is better positioned than most to replicate it but finding the elite coach is the biggest barrier.

Well, we had one and fired him, but that's another story. Whether the current one can grow into that role remains to be seen, but the early returns are not good.

We've been moving up in the AAC standings - currently third from the bottom. By my calculations, if we don't play for another couple years we'll be in first place.

Really quite amazing to watch what Kelvin Sampson built at Houston

I wonder if he would have won a national championship by now if he was still at Indiana.

He said when he was hired there that he wanted to emulate what UC did on both ends of the court

Mission accomplished. Their style of play is way more UC than UC is now.
