So they aren't joining the Ivy on the sidelines.

I think this play the Same opponent twice on the same floor back to back days is going to be the in thing for smaller conferences. I know of a few who have already adapted this approach.

Its a sensible alternative to avoid large scale covid problems. By playing only one team a weekend, you have less chance of having a stop and start schedule, and makeups are easier. Sun Belt used this format in Volleyball this year as a test and it worked. There were series postponed, but because it was against the same team, they were simply made up in Midweek later on with minimal schedule interruptions. We are introducing it for basketball as well.

CAA is doing it as well. Saturday and Sunday series against the same team. Only home and home is with your closest geographic rival (in Charleston’s case, UNCW).

I am unconvinced that a meaningful national D1 hoops season can be played. There are going to be so many cancelations on such short notice that I suspect the whole thing will become a train wreck within the first few weeks.

But we shall see.

The MWC is doing something similar, with each school doing a couple warmups then a 20 game conference schedule, back to back games on the same floor for each of the opponents. It works well for the MWC with 11 schools, as each hosts 5 schools in back to back.

Here is San Jose State's schedule as an example. The non-con schedule consists of hosting two nearby WCC schools (UOP in Stockton and Santa Clara a couple miles up the road from San Jose), and visiting Pepperdine in Malibu. They are also hosting a pair of tiny schools, which seem to be taking the place of the "athletes in Action" type exhibitions schools play as warmup; these are mostlly "practice" opponents for player evaluation. Then it's straight into conference only play. It's similar to Football, except with a few warmups.
