RE: Taylor Heinicke - Petey Hodge - 02-04-2021 01:28 AM

Coach Rivera mentioned something in an interview about TH. He said that in both games Taylor entered this year, he's been Spectacular. But he cautioned that TH played with "nothing to lose" and how would that hold up in early season games (or preseason) when making the team/starting is on the line? He said that there are DBs who make 6 INTs during practice, but zero during a preseason game because they're so cautious about making a mistake. Coach RR also noted TH's durability concerns as a potential problem. that all being said, Coach said he will give TH a fair shot in the QB competition leading up to the regular season.

HTTR!
GO TH!

Well frankly I have trouble believing it. Word is, Rivera is looking hard for either a free agent or drafted Quarterback. And we all know....Big money plays.

After my earlier vent on how TH was being characterized by the pundits, I am happy to report that these are the types of comments that I believe offer a much more considered and accurate analysis of what he brings to the table. It is particularly satisfying to note the kinds of thoughts and comments being offered by the WFT brain-trust and Joe Theismann.

That said, with Heinicke’s performance in the wild card round against Tampa Bay and recent comments from former star Joe Theismann, the team may be willing to move forward with their young QB.

https://purpleptsd.com/trading-down-in-the-draft-is-becoming-unlikely-for-the-vikings/

Despite being out of football until he was signed to the practice squad in December, 27-year-old journeyman Taylor Heinicke started the playoff game against the Buccaneers and impressed, and he could be in the mix next season.

“So now as we start putting this together, we are looking at all our options," Rivera said. "We’re looking at not just who can be the number one but who’s the number two and is that number two a guy that’s going to have a chance to grow in to be the number one."

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/sports/nbcsports/this-ron-rivera-quote-on-a-backup-qb-could-be-good-news-for-taylor-heinicke/2562541/

If Washington doesn’t draft a quarterback this April, who should they turn to? This might be a bit of a surprise, but Theismann sounds confident in Taylor Heinicke.

“I’d be very comfortable with Taylor [Heinicke] starting right now, Theismann said.

Heinicke shocked the NFL world on Wild Card weekend with an impressive showing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished that game with 306 passing yards, 46 rushing yards and two total touchdowns."

“So now as we start putting this together, we are looking at all our options," Rivera said on 106.7's BMitch and Finlay. "We’re looking at not just who can be the number one but who’s the number two and is that number two a guy that’s going to have a chance to grow in to be the number one."

When examining that quote, it's hard not to believe that is good news for Taylor Heinicke. Though some feel he deserves a chance at being the starter, there's an argument to be made that he'd be a perfect backup option in Washington.

Just 27-years-old, Heinicke still has some youth on his side. He has also only been around the NFL for three seasons and made just two starts, meaning there is plenty of room for growth and development as he gets more experiences under his belt.

And what he displayed in Washington's NFC Wild Card Round game against the Buccaneers shows that there is raw skill there. He has pocket presence, an NFL arm and mobility. Those are all things a team wants in a quarterback.

Agreed, mortgaging the future of the team for a player (Watson) who while great is a questionable teammate and who will ***** and moan the first time things don't go his way is not the rigth way to go. If Fitzpatrick has an Oline that can give him time to throw he is deadly.

RE: Taylor Heinicke - Gilesfan - 02-05-2021 01:45 PM

Who is questioning Watson as a teammate?

He is a primadonna who whined because he didn't get his way in Texas. He undermined the entire team with his whiny tantrum, becasue he didn't get the guy he wanted. Maybe I overstate, but he comes with baggage and questionable loyalty in my opinion.

Ive never seen or heard anyone else claim that Watson is a bad teammate or that he whined.

Personally, I don't blame him for wanting out of Houston. They are mismanaged and have gotten rid of all the talent that could help him. And the organization treats players like crap.

He signed his extension after Hopkins was traded for peanuts.

He has nothing to complain about. He's making millions to play football. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

A fun article to read comparing Mahomes game against the Bucs tomorrow verses TH performance and if you haven't listened to the Mexican version of TH diving TD, be sure to watch the Twitter video; it is priceless!

The Legend of Taylor Heinicke!

RE: Taylor Heinicke - ODU AGGIE - 02-07-2021 09:25 PM

Well, the Super Bowl is over, and, at least so far, the WFT with Taylor Heinicke looked a hell of a lot better against the Bucs than the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes. Just saying.

Heinicke
26 of 44, 59%, 306 yds, 1 TD, 1 Int, 46 yds rushing, 1 TD

Mahomes

26 of 49, 53%, 270 yds, no TDs, 2 Int, 33 yds rushing no TDs

RE: Taylor Heinicke - AimHigher - 02-07-2021 10:17 PM

Gotta say TH with WFT game vs the Bucs was a lot more exciting than the super bowl. 04-rock

Taylor and Washington also fared well both individually and collectively against Tampa Bay compared to Tampa's other two playoff opponents - New Orleans (Drew Brees) and Green Bay (Aaron Rogers).

I hope that TH gets a chance to start somewhere. He has put the fun of watching football back again.
