You really don’t see the difference in the 2 situations? Please don’t ever negotiate anything for me.

Spot on ---- I want a new president before JMU has to replace the AD spot after Bourne retires. Who the heck knows what Alger would do on the athletic front without someone to guide him and oversee the process. I this Alger hiring a new AD would be a disaster for all JMU athletics.

OK. But not sure I understand your point... in fact, there is zero need for us to be so nuanced or praise the CAA - we are 90% of what makes CAA work, TX/OU were less than that to the Big12 (despite the big dollars at stake)

The exit fee is $0 from CAA football... the media rights dollars are what, $100k?

TX and OU already had a landing spot. JMU does not. Also, some options bring floated around might include staying in CAA for some sports not offered by other potential conference affiliates.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - Hart Foundation - 08-05-2021 02:56 PM

CAA Media rights are not $100,000 for JMU. The conference is spending the nominal FLO money on purchasing CBS Sports Network streaming games for hoops.

JMU’s media rights revenue for 2020 was $8,000. Lol but staying in FCS for a decade is strategic and makes perfect sense/cents.

Fair point...I'm not saying Bourne and Alger should flip them the bird (maybe just a bit once we have a landing spot!)

Exhibit A: Alger led the committee that picked Joey to be CAA commish.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - Hart Foundation - 08-05-2021 05:15 PM

Exhibit B - he created and signed a formal anti-COA letter while aligning with these bit players in the Athletics world.

Inexcusable. He is and has been a huge roadblock to JMU advancing to FBS.

Athletically linked via written philosophy to…
Delaware
W&M
Vermont
Hofstra
VMI
New Hampshire
Elon
Wofford

Which one of these relationships is assisting JMU to the FBS? None you say? Who knew?
The circumstances must just be bad luck…

How did other FCS schools find FBS homes in the past 10 years while JMU couldn’t? It must have just been bad luck for poor ol’ JMU

I wasn’t comparing situations…only that one. And my thirteen year old daughter could’ve brokered a deal and gotten JMU into FBs.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - herdfan129 - 08-05-2021 06:02 PM

JMU was offered a spot at the same time ODU was.

I know some of you don’t want to believe that but it’s true from multiple sources at Marshall. We approached ODU, Delaware, and JMU. At first everyone said no and then ODU called us up and changed their mind.

so we are clear - is this the same uncle Ron who -

- turned down the A10
- fired Lefty
- hired Sherm, a man who won 36% of his games at ISU ( 28% in conference) as
the man to replace a coaching legend.

- hired Alex Wood
- hired Don Lemish
- hired John Thurston
- & never built a facility between '85 & ''98

ok, thought so. Great man, built the university and he got sports off the ground, but he had some major , major sports stumbles.....

Very fair on Ron- though you did leave out a biggie that he signed off on, so I added it. 04-cheers

No it's not. Every great leader is going to have some not so good decisions, doesn't make them a bad leader. If you are going to point out where a leader has fallen short and then take another moment and talk about where he stood out. Let's see, you're most likely to not know about the greatest coach in JMU history, Lou Campanelli. Talk about the hiring of Lefty. Talk about Babcock and taking us to the CWS. The very best have flaws, you ever studied George Washington. I'm sorry but Alger is not a leader, he's a manager.

Other than football, have they won or even come close to competing for a national title? App has a very good football history but nothing else. It is obvious that all you care about is football so your love fest of App needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Oh, you must not have gotten the memo.... FOOTBALL REVENUE DRIVES ALL ATHLETICS PROGRAMS!!!! It isn't rocket science.

Football isn't all I "care about." I love JMU women's softball, basketball, lacrosse, and everything else that brings attention to the university that we all love.

"Love fest of App?" Really? You haven't a clue! I have been given many fingers in Boone, NC by Ape State fans because I wore a purple baseball cap that read "JMU." I still respect and admire where App State's admin has taken their university and I wish they were our admin, which, frankly, sucks really bad compared to App's admin.

You can be an apologist all you want for this admin. Most of us on this board don't buy that happy horseshit!

JMU loses money on football so the sport doesn’t drive revenue at JMU. Student fees drive revenue at JMU.

After the administration's statement they have to realize that they will lose some donors by staying in the CAA

Not to hijack this ever-so-constructive thread, bereft as it is of anything resembling an actual rumor despite its title, and with all due respect to Lou Campanelli, I'd put Kenny Brooks over Campanelli as the greatest-ever JMU coach.

Carry on.

From what I've seen from knowlegable posters over the years, as long as JMU has student fees and the top N donors are happy, the rest of us are greeted with open arms but don't move the needle.
