Apparently Marshall to SBC isn't a done deal?

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - madizoned-level2004 - 10-29-2021 10:02 AM

IMO Marshall would be crazy to stay in that dog's breakfast of a conference. I know the exit fee money would be pretty sweet, is it really worth it?

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - JMUsince89 - 10-29-2021 10:05 AM

Question for Marshall do we stay put, have large travel area and possibly win conference championships as the strong team. Or do we go with Sunbelt and fight for the title year in year out. HMMMMMMMMMM

The President of the university is the final say in these matters. They aren't going to say anything publicly until they've given the new President the options before the university. Until he/she is employed, I don't think they are privy into any of those negotiated deals. My guess is, they are letting the new President decide now that he can have access to a lot of internal documentation he wasn't able to see until yesterday. I actually think it's less to do with the optics and more just the legality of their current administrative position.

I would imagine the new President will look at the evidence before him and come to the same conclusion as the AD and other stakeholders at MU.

Fairly reputable poster (BOP) who is supposedly a media member with connections, says he is hearing this for CUSA:

EAST
FIU
UCONN (FB ONLY)
WKU
MT
LIBERTY

WEST
UTEP
N MEX ST
SAM HOUSTON
LA. TECH
MCNEESE ST.

LOL

Massey Rankings
FIU: 150
UConn: 181
WKU: 87
MTSU: 105
Liberty: 75
UTEP: 117
NMSU: 160
SHU: 99
LaTech: 123
McNeese: 166

3 teams in the top 100. 3 more in the top 149. 4 at 150+. If they would throw in UMass instead of Sam Houston they could have 4 of the worst 6 teams in FBS instead of just 3.

Yeah, I don't think even the most Marshallest Marshallan is dumb enough to take that. Their new president seems smart and successful, unless he's been drinking Huntington well water they'll make the right decision.

Marshall is gone. It's simply a courtesy to the new president not to announce yet. You don't say to them on day one, "Look at this major decision we made without you just days before you started!" They've been in touch with the new president for weeks and guaranteed they're fully on board. Just a formality dudes.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - jmufan2008 - 10-29-2021 10:37 AM

Confirmed they're submitting it to the state GA! Booyah!!! Let the celebrations begin!

From the SBC Board:

Brad Smith, the next president at Marshall, was on
@WVMetroNews
Talkline this morning with
@HoppyKercheval
. He was asked if he believes Marshall will be in the Sun Belt Conference:

"I do believe all published reports are based on hypothetical and not the inside knowledge.......I also know there are multiple options that are viable right now."

NOT a done deal at all...
