I’ve been on the fence about that for a long time but it seems pretty clear they know very well what they are doing.

Also depending on how this all played out which we may never know 100% of the story JMU played a pivotal role in this round of realignment. Courted by multiple conferences , connected with multiple FBS schools and the end game appears to be an expanded G5 that rivals any in the nation with a reworked media deal through ESPN that will pay conference members the same as the new American schools will earn.

Fantastic job by our leadership on this - it may appear to be something that came about only recently but they have been working on this for a long time.

The egotism and elitism of your great leadership and some JMU posters on this board knows no bounds. Yes, you finally got an invite you felt was worthy of you. But, it wasn't the ACC, AAC, or even C-USA, it was the same conference you snubbed 7 years ago. The one that would hurt your academic reputation, whose schools went to meaningless bowl games, who had to play on week nights, and that just weren't good enough to be associated with.

The main reasons you were invited this time is because of your geographical location and because Marshall insisted, not because of how great you are. Thankfully however, you've been working on getting ready for 7 years and you aren't associated with the Falwell's, allowing the SB member schools to vote yes.

When you're moved to the Sun Belt forums, a little advice. Try to be a little humble. Acknowledge the work App State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Coastal, and the rest of the conference put in while you monitored. In the last 7 years the member schools moved the SB from the worst FBS conference to arguably the first or second best. Show some respect. Oh, and ditch those streamers.

Hey sorry for not kissing the ring of App State in my post. Everyone on this board knows how special JMU is and what we bring to the table of any conference. If that comes across as elitist or egotistical I’m sorry but it’s the truth.

The post was focused on giving thanks and kudos for what our leaders did to put us in this position. We did things our way on our timeline and we have landed in a really good spot. The fact that fans feel this is a really good spot and are excited to be part of the Sun Belt is very much about App State, the other members of the current Sun Belt, and how much the league their leadership has done to position themselves as one of the best if not the best G5 conferences in the country. I think it goes without saying that we have respect for you since we wanted to be affiliated with you in the same conference. We hope you have the same respect for us and look forward to playing you on the field for years to come.

Gee, thanks for gracing the SB with your presence. I'll see you on the big boy board.

Good grief, I'd almost forgot how sensitive you Appy State fans are.

Your ‘facts’ are wrong, as usual.

We never snubbed the belt because of academics. It was all because of the geographic makeup of the league at the time (which included Idaho and NM state)

If we were so hung up academics, why did we offer to come for football only? It was the Belt who said no to that, not us.

Oh, and don’t forget, if we had said yes, you would not have had Coastal and be reaping the benefit of the attention they have received the past 2 years.

Coastal was the Belts Plan B.

If we make a move to the SBS this coming week, the closest to the unicorn conference we will see, hard not to agree with you and yes I am very much aware that I have been as hard on Bourne as anyone especially going back a few years.

Some of the situation and timing may be luck but being prepared creates luck.

Hit it right on the head. One of the many reasons people hate JMU. Half of them are stuck so far up their own asses it’s unbelievable. They really can’t admit that they got good at sports when all of their peers bumped up.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - NJDuke97 - 10-24-2021 07:30 AM

I think the App fans are showing some insecurities here. Nobody mentioned anything about academics or being better than anyone. Your admin and Ga Southerns admin made the move on your timeline and what was best for your school. It’s worked out very well for you and none of that surprises us. You have a great football program and history.

There are a ton of variables here that may not fit the narrative of JMU feeling we were better than anyone and declining several years ago including alumni footprint, geography, financials, etc. JMU made the move on our timeline to a conference that makes sense for JMU institutionally. We are more ready from a budget and facilities perspective as well.

We are a younger program than App State with a different student and alumni population. The geography and the rivals had to line up. We have a different culture and philosophy in terms of all sports success likely rooted in the fact that we started as a women’s college years ago. That doesn’t make us better than anyone that just makes us who we are. Moving up was always going to come with some compromises but we needed to feel good about all those things in order to move especially given that our Athletics programs have been thriving at the current level.

Take that how you want to but that is the truth.

Haha, another joke of incorrect facts that keeps on being spread by the haters.

Go look at who was still in fcs when we won the title in 2004, or in 2006 when we were ranked in top 4 all year, or in 2008 when we beat app state and were ranked #1 all year.

But yea, we were just an ‘average’ fcs program until the last 5 years. 03-lmfao03-lmfao

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - Purplehazed - 10-24-2021 07:37 AM

The JMU board has d#cks, well mannered adults, egomaniacs, beer guzzlers, streamer throwers, admin apologists, admin haters, fcs homers, fbs at all cost posters, JMU employees, Rocktown locals, DC alum, Richmond alum, Sh#thole VA Beach alum, North Easterners (even people for New Jersey) "yuck", JMU profs and many more posters.

For some reason, posters from schools all over the country, both fcs and fbs come to our board, probably to watch fight and watch a 15 year long train wreck.

We crash board servers over here (literally)...and we are soon going to be in the SBC boards so get ready.

Purple and gold streamers will be thrown in stadiums that have not yet been covered in purple and gold streamers.

Nothing says JMU doesn’t matter like a bunch of randoms posting up on our boards 24/7. I can’t wait to wipe the floor with ODU, MU, ASU, the whole lot. Game on d-bags.

JMU posters, welcome and we are very happy to be joining Sun Belt with you. Our schools need to be in the same conference. Excited about the other schools, but those boys gotta remember they AIN'T pushing no virginia boys around. That goes for every sport, not just football. Welcome, brothers and sisters.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - Madisonian - 10-24-2021 08:07 AM

Meh. I like the hate. So far we’ve had a lone Marshall fan saying we weren’t going to be in the lineup, one App fan with hurt feelings about our collective egos, one ODU fan on here spouting absolute nonsense… a lot of unnecessary emotions expressed. Most all of the other fans around the league (including the previously named Academic Organizations) have been offering valuable input. Looking forward to the rivalries! Carry on…

Where you guys gonna land for field hockey? I'm guessing the Big East? That would be a great spot with UConn, Liberty and ODU...all very good programs.

This moment is bittersweet as I feel like you're all grown up now and moving out....my trolling days on the JMU board are growing short. A special shutout to Dukester as we've been jousting on and off for about 20 years.....you finally did it kid. Congrats again guys on the move!

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - Saint3333 - 10-24-2021 08:58 AM

The back room dealings were interesting this time around and showed how prior relationships really helped JMU (and others relationships hurt themselves).

The SBC was looking to add two, USM and Marshall.

Some schools wanted to go to 14 to create better regional travel, App being one of the most vocal.

Schools were concerned about splitting tv revenue, but ESPN stepped up to equalize per school payouts.

App pushed for JMU and ODU expecting pushback from the western members for LA Tech and WKU. LA Tech’s attitude towards the SBC and public statements turned them off and WKU previously leaving the Belt didn’t receive western support or significant pushback which was somewhat surprising.

App’s admin has always been a supporter of JMU and tried to get them to come along last time. JMU did turn down the offer (I’m not here to debate the primary reason).

In just seven years App’s AD has gained a ton of respect in that room and now molded the ideal eastern division for us (as well as easing one of JMUs previous concerns). I just hope we can keep him a few more years.

Welcome to the conference. Give humility a chance upon entrance though.

To be fair, we have always had, and still have, a large number of posters from other schools who routinely come to the jmu board and try and **** on us.

What reaction do you expect?

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - #YEEHAWDUKES - 10-24-2021 09:06 AM

This whole show humility and be humble is weird. This is our board. What do you expect? Of course we think highly of our entire athletic program - and we have results across the board to support that. It would never cross my mind to go on an app state or odu board to tell them to be less proud of their programs and accomplishments.
