Roger Soenksen is the Faculty Representative to athletics - I'm sure he would know. Although he might be sworn to secrecy on all things conference realignment. He's a former professor of mine, should I ask him? lol

JMU would probably want their support but not require it.

CUSA and SB should merge and add JMU/Liberty and be done with this.

I get your point, why why would the SB bail out CUSA?
If both conferences were struggling, I get it. It would be a win-win. But the SB likes what they have. Why should they give up anything for the mistakes that CUSA has made? Plus, I seriously doubt any SB school would rather have CUSA's leadership.
CUSA has made their bed over years of poor decisions and media deals and they need to sleep in it.

Especially considering that the Sun Belt suggested a merger years ago and it was rebuffed by the Cusa because they viewed themselves as better than the Sun Belt. They also took some teams from the Sun Belt- Western Kentucky etc so the thought of those schools going back is a little hard to fathom for both sides.

Yea...I suggest people watch the video from the LT AD below. What an A$$. You understand why SBC schools despise some CUSA schools.

Pride comes before the fall.

That is pure, genuine hatred between La Tach and Louisiana. The kind of hatred that would make for great conference games. Unfortunately, they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

IMHO if the CUSA teams stay what the conference could look like.

Realize it's 11 teams so time will tell. Noting many of these teams have had NCAA runs as the A10 and cycle around.

Louisiana Tech
UMass*
UTEP
Liberty*
FIU

Fixed the list for you, pretty sure the train has left the station for most others. Find 3 more to join you, and there's a chance of salvaging CUSA.

I think the ship has sailed. UMass would be an good All Sports member to any conference, and JMU will miss playing in the NE, but I think the Sun Belt move is the right one.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - hburg - 10-22-2021 10:02 AM

Probably a little too late...though Marshall fans keep going back and forth with them staying in CUSA and leaving for SBC. Who knows what will happen. But seems like all the sources from outside Marshall are all pointing to SBC and a decision for the 4 by next week.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - JMU2004 - 10-22-2021 10:06 AM

From a poster who works at UL and is supposedly in tune with SBC alignment.

But it's all a moot point now The Sun Belt will add MU, JMU, ODU and USM and go to 14 teams. Tech, WKU, MT and FIU will join UTEP and scramble for enough teams to remain an FBS conference.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - jmu98 - 10-22-2021 10:08 AM

One of the most in tune posters on SBC board (apparently works at one of the schools) just said about an hour ago it's happening and the Marshall board has no idea what they are talking about. I expect more leaks today with an announcement early next week. JMU, ODU, MU, and USM to Sun Belt.

Very good chance of WKU/MT to Mac according to other rumors. Then the departing schools have financial motivation ($3 mil each) to just disband it.

IDK about MT. Less likely but possible is KYU and UMass all sports to the MAC

This 100%. In the past when asked he's either been stoic or seems annoyed by the question. Now you can tell he's happy to get asked. It's switched from really simple one sentence answers to talking for 5-10 minutes. He's either trying to hint about what's going to happen or he's got a terrible poker face.

I vote terrible poker face

Hey I hope that's true. There is a ton of smoke that is suggesting that.
I honestly didn't know much about those that left the Sun Belt to go CUSA, but it certainly seems like bridges were burnt. At the time CUSA was stronger and they seemed to flaunt that superiority in the faces of those in the SB. For the SB to just welcome them back with open arms seems foolish. The Sun Belt has flourished with their departures and not sure I would say that SB fans would be all too happy to have them back.
Based on the comment from Arkansas St AD, the fans would be happy with the additions. That almost seems to definitely rule those teams out. They didn't help get the Sun Belt where they are today and to bring them back in now seems far too merciful.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - hburg - 10-22-2021 10:24 AM

With a potential move to FBS, do you think the NCAA would waive the two year transition period because of COVID?

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - JMad03 - 10-22-2021 10:26 AM

I don't know about you guys, but when was the last time you were PROUD to be in a certain conference??? Anyone??
If this does happen, I certainly wouldn't be against getting a Sun Belt t-shirt!
Just the thought of being in that conference makes me giddy.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - jmu98 - 10-22-2021 10:49 AM

Looks like ESPN may have even approved the same payouts even with the 4 additional teams which is great news.

What is the payout per team in the SBC?
