JMU holds a lot of cards in this Sun Belt vs. C-USA expansion showdown. Interesting that AD Jeff Bourne expressed the importance of peers and rivalry when asked about geography.
Like I said earlier, it all was hinging on JMU. But I think it's about to be a party up in here.

The "stability" part was fascinating given how in the past the desire for a new regional FBS conference to emerge was expressed. It isn't possible to get to JMUs desired alignment of schools without some instability occurring.
I sort of looked at that as they want a very committed group of schools that aren't going to jump elsewhere soon.
Monarx point about less western mouths in a rebuilt CUSA is interesting, and I can see why basketball first ODU might prefer to rebuild there. But aligning with App St now, along with ESPN deal in hand is a pretty big upside also.

FIU already talking about FCS or Disbandment to regroup (AKA UAB).
MTW said they don't want UTEP, push comes to shove they will take them based on history alone (Big West Aff)
MAC mentioned they may want to expand WKU was talked about, MT or ODU could both be possibilities as well.
That leaves CUSA with 2. They won't survive. There has already been talking about what happens to the "Exit Fee" if the conference dissolves.
Teams are looking toward this to possibly save money.
SB could also take ODU and La. Tech means MT and WKU would definitely go to MAC.
Teams owe a defunkd conference little to nothing.

Probably not at this point. Don't do anything to potentially screw anything up. This appears to be a very fluid situation. While we all want to know what's going on, not at the price of potentially messing the deal. I think Jeff is holding himself back.

I believe the holdup on the announcement is app and coastal.
I take from bournes comments, they, along with Marshall and odu, “prefer” a cusa that includes Marshall and odu staying, but also convincing app and coastal to join as well.
But I don’t see that happening, which is why it will end up being the sun belt.

Interestingly, I wonder if we were pushing CUSA if things would move much faster because they REALLY need to announced something ASAP for a show of strength. Whereas, Sunbelt doesn't really GAF and can take their sweet time because there's no pressure on them. It may take some extra time to work out details either way, but I think CUSA would have come together more quickly and Sunbelt isn't in a rush, so the longer it takes for an official announcement, the more likely it is that we're all moving to the SB.

yeah, that was pretty good interview...he's being a pro...excited for HIM to accomplish this (knock on wood)
pretty sure i didn't hear the word "academics" mentioned. good - we take 80%, but our applicant pool is high quality (a fact missed on a lot of people)

Just listened and feel a bit more optimistic.
JMU does do things the right way and said that JMU is very desirable to leagues.
Based on everything said, CUSA is off the table and Sun Belt is very much on the table.
Seems like we will know in the next few weeks to a month. Sounds about right.
CUSA should be very worried.

only + for CUSA is that it offers all or nearly all of the Oly sports... but plenty of east coast options for homes for the one offs

Sunbelt is a done deal, CUSA will die.

I know we'd all like to hear the final resolution of this, but a 2-3 week period for this next stage makes sense. That's kind of the way it's worked since the UT-OU news came out; bombshell, everyone digests it, they figure out the next course of action and reach out to each other, the institutions make their decisions, and the news comes out. All that needs 2-3 weeks to happen.
