You are right, it's been a while since we went undefeated, finished ranked in the Top 10, and had multiple Heisman Finalists. Kind of hard to expect to do that on a regular basis as a G5 program.

Even with that, since the last round of realignment (going in to this season) we have spent more time ranked in the Top 25 than all of the other CUSA and SBC programs combined.

We have had multiple games with 40k fans.

We have beat the following teams: Louisville, Maryland, Purdue, Cincy.

So you are correct, we aren't at the top of our peak right now, but to claim Marshall is a has been is just incorrect, and even if it were true, it's better than a never was I suppose.

Attendance Saturday 10/9/21:

JMU 25,035
Marshall 24,172

Outcomes on Saturday:

JMU lost to Villanova

Marshall beat your big brother ODU.

Did you really just toot your horn by bragging about beating ODU? REALLY?

I haven't had any issue with you until now. That's just plain, silly man. When you beat UMASS you gonna brag about it?!?!

Bragging? No.

Using the moment to stir the pot calling ODU your big brother? Yes.

We're a pretty insecure fan base but i promise you in no way does anyone think we're beneath ODU. In no way.

Except Dukeman, but he's a bot.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - Duke Dawg - 10-11-2021 11:26 AM

schools that were once in a conference with Marshall, and then left them for a prettier girl:

UCF
Memphis
East Carolina
Tulsa
Houston
SMU
Tulane

could soon add:

UAB, UTSA, Charlotte, ODU, Southern Miss, WKU

that's a lot of rejection for such a 'catch'

Marshall may very well get an AAC invite. They need to decide if that’s where they want to be. I think they are the hold up for JMU joining the SB. Everyone I know close the App states App has no interest in the AAC.

All I am saying is that this herdfan guy comes to our boards as some kind of conference expert demeans JMU while doing so forgetting where he came from (Marshall was once an FCS power who moved up successfully to FBS) and forgetting where his program is now (not very good). How about some perspective- Marshall football isn’t very good right now and certainly not what it used to be. You want to say it was a high bar they set ok but they have clearly plateaued and their trend line is flat or slightly down. Saturday not withstanding our program is clearly trending the other direction.

I have not demeaned JMU. I like JMU and wish you guys were in a conference with us. Yes, I back snide comments back to people when they say stuff about my school, that's normal.

Marshall might not be very good right now by our standards, but we are still better and get more exposure than JMU, so what does that say about JMU and FCS football?

As I previously stated....

Since the last round of realignment (going in to this season) we have spent more time ranked in the Top 25 than all of the other CUSA and SBC programs combined.

We have had multiple games with 40k fans.

We have beat the following teams: Louisville, Maryland, Purdue, Cincy.

So you are correct, we aren't at the top of our peak right now, but to claim Marshall is a has been is just incorrect.

JMU fans would LOVE to have that kind of resume since 2014.

Your resume is deceiving.
You haven't beaten Louisville since 2011.
You beat Maryland in 2013 at a neutral site.
You beat Perdue in 2014, but you did it at home, which is something that is impossible for us to do right now.
You beat Marshall in Cincinatti in 2017. I'll give you that one.
If you are going to spout numbers, at least be truthful about them.

We beat a top 10 ranked VT team in their house. Last time you beat them was in 1940.
Just wondering: when was the last time you beat a top 10 team in their house?
When was the last time you beat a top 10 FBS team as an FCS program?

It's easy to brag about your schedule when you get FBS programs every week. We get once a year (if we are lucky) and they are always at our opponents place. If we were FBS, we would be able to boast similar stats because we'd have a higher percentage of games and teams to use for our resume. We don't, so congratulations to you.
For an FCS program, our resume is pretty damn good.

Oh and for the record, I am way more impressed by your loss at App State than your OT win at home against ODU. And you want to brag about that ODU win??? Come on. You are way better than that.
Proof?

Again, piss off. You're nothing but a sad internet troll pretending you have some inside knowledge on conference realignment. You spend half your day on a JMU forum. Think about that for a minute.

RE: Newest Conference Rumor/Discussion 2.0 - KickItToScotty - 10-11-2021 11:52 AM

I like herdfan's input when he's not throwing jabs at JMU, but yeah it's the JMU board. It's full of JMU fans, some are bound to have extreme opinions or get defensive about any opinion that we aren't SEC bound, some are bound to put down other schools. Throw jabs back or try to stir the pot on the JMU board and it's gonna pull in lots of JMU fans fighting back and become pages of annoying and pointless trash talk.

Let's push reset on this Herdfan/Marshal thing. Enough back and forths about whose got the bigger _________.

Discuss realignment. Attacks at fans or schools will be removed.

yep, covid drove this point home, but all the schools see it now. CSU and AFA affirmed it.

The east coast conference is there for the taking. We know the list. Who makes the move to make it happen? AAC sits at the top of the food chain, so they get first dibs. if AAC doesnt, then it will happen in the SB or CUSA. Or, do those three conferences work together to get the optimum outcome for all 3?

I think ESPN would need to orchestrate from behind the scenes or they will never come to an agreement.

Seems like this could take a while boys. The good news it that it looks more and more likely that our Dukes will be part of it.

They also are a research institution with a good medical school. They check all of the boxes.

So who will be the 12 school? Adding a Virginia school to round out the east division just makes sense. Is it Liberty, ODU or JMU.

I just can't see Southern Miss as they have a 25 million dollar athletics budget and it really hasn't moved much the last 5 years so they are just not investing in their programs.

Agree that UAB is a lock as after almost going away there has been a huge investment in football and athletics. I could see Marshall as they have a good overall athletic program and a good history in football. Issue is that they are in a dying state with little to no growth in the university as far as student population over the last number of years.

i don't understand this infatuation with Marshall. they are a program that has already hit their ceiling in FB, has very little " market" even in their home state of WV, which is sparsely populated. WVU OWNS that state and the media coverage there. Look at their recent attendance problems. i don't see the AAC betting on the future with Marshall. JMU offers DC/ Richmond/ Tidewater and proven social media and streaming metrics which are trending much better than Marshall from a trajectory standpoint. Basketball facilities crush Marshall now, and we all know our BB program has the sky as the limit. Lots to see once you pull the curtain back, and JMU has a lot over Marshall when you do that. AAC has already pulled the curtain back, rest assured.

The other two times were both against WVU over a decade ago. I’ll stand over here in the camp of why Marshall would want more drivable games for fans (cough JMU cough) as having 14,000 + extra folks on game day is better than the status quo. Let me know when you get here and we can chat.

If JMU even brought half that amount then you would be our new favorite conference mate. No one travels these days. Marshall usually has a good crowd at most away games because we play in the south where our alumni bases are. No one ever brings more than a couple hundred fans to Marshall (except for the P5s).

I could see JMU bringing 3-5 k fans to Marshall - especially if both schools were playing well.

It appears both schools are similar attendance wise, if you don't include FCS playoff games. We'd likely be close to 30k for parent's weekend if not for the size of our stadium.

One thing is certain: our fans go to all games. It doesn't matter where we are. There is always a JMU contingent.
Seeing as how Marshall is only a few hours away, I could pretty much guarantee that you would see more than a few hundred JMU fans in Huntington if we were to play.
If we played enough where a rivalry was built? That number would only increase.
We have always supported our teams. That will only improve as we move to FBS.
